3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
2012.08.07 - on tap at Always Ron's. Pours a ruby copper with thin white head. Aroma very nondescript to my nose. Taste is fleeting, off the taste buds as fast as it was on. Mouthfeel very smooth, almost "flat", little carbonation. For a barley wine, this is very smooth and hides the alcohol well.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
average fizzy light brown head. good lacing. mostly diminishing. sparkling hazy medium-particled thick dark reddish-amber body. aroma: moderate malt caramel, light hoppy. if: very light sweet moderate bitter. ff: very light sweet harsh bitter; long duration. palate: medium full body, oily texture, lively carbonation, metallic light alcoholic finish. Amargor lupulado (escalante, lembrando carqueja) logo de cara, como indicava o aroma. Desvirtuamento do estilo.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
24th Jan 2015. Keg pour at Cotteridge Wines before the RateBeer bottle exchange. Not a great idea to have such a strong brew so early, but a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do! Anyway, I like Barley Wines. Poured a slightly hazy brown with a small but lasting head. Aroma and taste are all about malty molasses with both toffee and caramel to the fore in both the nose and flavour, plenty of alcohol too, especially in the finish.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a reddish dark copper with very thin, off white head. Aroma of sweet dried fruit and alcohol ester. Flavor is sweet, bitter and alcohol. The hops try to cut through the sweetness and alcohol burn but are beat back with a somewhat cloying sweetness. The end is very bitter and lasting. Lots of alcohol and not very quaffable. It’s like a really bitter eisbock. Different stuff here!

A big bold hoppy barley wine. 12floz bottle from The Bottle Shop Hong Kong. Dark brown with beige head. Toffee, liquorice, almost stony aroma. Soft palate with medium carbonation. Intense flavours of raisins, burnt toffee, nutty malt. Warming, very boozy, intense flavours.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Keg at Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham, Cotteridge Convention. Dark copper with white head. This was heavy stuff, big on the alcohol front, malt lead, intense on the palate and bitter. A little over the top for me but still decent.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle 355ml. Nose: herbs, a lot of orange, tropical fruits, caramel, very pronounced. Taste is orange, leading to deep pine, then tangerine, marmalade, sweet sugar note, lasting bitter. Slight pepperiness in the finish. It’s a pleasant beer but it feels much closer to a double/imperial IPA than a barley wine for me.
