COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Did you also at some point in your life get seduced by promising words like ’probably the best in the world’, ’it works every time’ etc.? This American Barley Wine Ale says it how it is. It’s intense, attention seekingly hoppy, and definitely your kind of beer. A beer with a big ego, drive and a huge thirst for recognition.

D’ampolla. Fosc de color marró. Nous, caramel amb panses en l’aroma. El sabor és de malts amb un munt de panses i malt caramel. Bona en la seva categoria.

Bottle. Tall Boys Beer Market, Leeds. Hazy, reddy amber. Film of pale tan head. Burnt caramel. Thick, syrupy hop. Some dried fruit. A bit cakey. Taste starts chewy sweet. Turns heavy bitter. Chewy palate. Full body. Not too boozy, though. Finishes long, full bitter. Very tasty. Very warming. Good stuff.

A rather mild barley wine with ’only’ 10%. With a hoppy sweetness and comparably little caramel. Nice barley wine that might be mistaken for an imperial IPA.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Ariel. Pours orange to brown with a medium beige head, aroma of honey, caramel, herbs, orange, flavor of orange, tangerine, strawberry, bitter sweet, medium to full bodied.

Crazy smooth for the abv! Fairly avg pour & aroma. The taste is light w/ a small sense of hoppiness. It’s tasty but I’d like a little bit more flavor explosion.

14/XI/14 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ Sanne’s birthday tasting (Gent) - BB: n/a (2014-1320) Thanks to ElManana for sharing the bottle!

Clear red beer, irregular yellowish head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: caramel, bit fruity, some exotic fruits, sweet and sugary. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: very bitter, resinous, bit sweet, caramel, some citrus. Aftertaste: medicinal bitterness, very hoppy, up until an unpleasant level, alcoholic as well. Big disappointment.

12 oz bottle, Andersons. Dark brown-garnet pour; lots of yeast floaties; fizzy-ish head dissipates into nothing, leaving barely a trace of lacing at the top of the glass (my hard water??). Aroma is both bright and dark; cherry, grape, raisin, heavy tobacco, yet also this light note of pear or apricot or something, and there’s -almost- a Belgian yeast ester note in the smell. Heavy bitterness at first seems to temper down as I get further down the glass, but I suspect the 10%+ has something to do with that. I don’t even know what to say about this--it’s really good, yet textbook, yet strange; I’m pretty sure this is a great beer.

Bottle. Cherry, raisin, toffee malt and alcohol aroma. Medium brown with minimal head. Sweet raisin, toffee malt and moderately bitter herb and alcohol flavor. Nice.

Too many of these and you will be making a faux pas! As a barley wine, I really wanted just a bit more out of this one; however, it’s still very good. Aroma is sugary dark fruit. Taste is toffee, burnt sugar, raisins, and faint maple. Finish is only a bit bitter with a slight chewy malt.

Bottle from Dranken Geers @ home. Dark amber/brown colour, beige foam. Medium carbonation. Aroma of peach and apricot with notes of honey and very bitter hoppy finish. Well balanced. Very good barley wine!

Tap at Stags head as last draft i hadn’t previously rated i wasn’t planning on getting fucked up but alas a ticker must continue to move forward, pours reddish with nose of malt, dark fruits and hooch. tastes of deep toffee, figs, hot booze, cherry, sticky resin, malty and earthy bitters. hopping on finish and lingering boozy warming.
