COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Did you also at some point in your life get seduced by promising words like ’probably the best in the world’, ’it works every time’ etc.? This American Barley Wine Ale says it how it is. It’s intense, attention seekingly hoppy, and definitely your kind of beer. A beer with a big ego, drive and a huge thirst for recognition.

Pours deep redish brown with a firm, staying, creamy, white to off-white head. Aroma has dark chocolate, raisins, plums, apricot, light vinious, somewhat resiny. Medium carbonation, fine creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has good sweetness with firm bitterness. Apricot, peach, citrus. Deep milky chocolate, grainy, some cocoa-milk, raisins, vinious and warming. Soft roasted in the finish. Lovely beer.

Bottle. Cherry, raisin, toffee malt and alcohol aroma. Medium brown with minimal head. Sweet raisin, toffee malt and moderately bitter herb and alcohol flavor. Nice.

Too many of these and you will be making a faux pas! As a barley wine, I really wanted just a bit more out of this one; however, it’s still very good. Aroma is sugary dark fruit. Taste is toffee, burnt sugar, raisins, and faint maple. Finish is only a bit bitter with a slight chewy malt.

Bottle from Dranken Geers @ home. Dark amber/brown colour, beige foam. Medium carbonation. Aroma of peach and apricot with notes of honey and very bitter hoppy finish. Well balanced. Very good barley wine!

Tap at Stags head as last draft i hadn’t previously rated i wasn’t planning on getting fucked up but alas a ticker must continue to move forward, pours reddish with nose of malt, dark fruits and hooch. tastes of deep toffee, figs, hot booze, cherry, sticky resin, malty and earthy bitters. hopping on finish and lingering boozy warming.

Pours cloudy deep copper with low yellowish head. Aroma of resin, toffee, butterscotch, nuts. Taste is bitter, resinous with underlying caramel sweetness. Lingering bitter finish. Medium to rich creamy body with soft carbonation.

22 oz. bottle, thanks to Joe for sharing. Muddy brown color, with no real head. Caramel, milk chocolate, peat, papaya, orange peels, and cloves. Sweet and malty, but balanced reasonably well. Very heavy body, thick, and creamy. Overall, this is a big malt bomb. The hopping is mild, but effective at mellowing out the sweetness. This is a pretty complex, tasty, and well made barley wine. Could use some time in the cellar, I’d bet.

orange reddish tint, almost no head at all on this one. Nose is crisp with some honey, elderflower and some herbal elements. tobacco cigar taste, very heavy and the malt is overpowering. sticky resinous from over hopping. not much balance. maybe just needs a lot more time?

Thanks to tderoeck! 330 ml. bottle sampled @ Sanne’s birthday tasting. Red dark brown copper, little bubbles. Herbal hops nose, very bitter, very bitter resin, lightly boozy, toffee. Taste is bitter pine resin, lots of hops, varnish, boozy, bark, herbal bitter, pure cheap booze in the back, very bitter, varnish. Med. varnish malt body. I am not really a proponent of hoppy barley wine & this one is just too much, unpleasantly bitter herbal, varnish-tasting, overly alcoholic etc. A disappointment.

Draft at Fishale. Chestnut and ruby color with an off-white ring. Aroma is mostly hops with some sweetness. Flavor follows the aroma with hops forward. American styled barley wine with high bitterness. Nice but I miss the sweeter malty notes too.

Pours reddish brown. Nose is caramel, toffee, malts and alcohol. Very hoppy and bitter combined with a dense sweetness. Bit overwhelming.
