Did you also at some point in your life get seduced by promising words like ’probably the best in the world’, ’it works every time’ etc.? This American Barley Wine Ale says it how it is. It’s intense, attention seekingly hoppy, and definitely your kind of beer. A beer with a big ego, drive and a huge thirst for recognition.

Pours deep redish brown with a firm, staying, creamy, white to off-white head. Aroma has dark chocolate, raisins, plums, apricot, light vinious, somewhat resiny. Medium carbonation, fine creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has good sweetness with firm bitterness. Apricot, peach, citrus. Deep milky chocolate, grainy, some cocoa-milk, raisins, vinious and warming. Soft roasted in the finish. Lovely beer.

12oz bottle. Unfiltered amber-copper body. Thinnish off-white/beige thins after a minute or two. Piny, evergreen, thick aroma. Some rich, caramel-fruit tones. Kind of has that added straight up sugar tone that I’m not fond of, not the malt depth you’d really expect from a beer so big. It’s drinkable, respectably hopped, but just lacks some richness and depth. OK.

Fra flaske på M2 feb-15: en bæraktig, sødmefylt aroma brer seg og vi griper til glasset for siste gang i kveld. Villbringebær, plommer og rips, men allikevel med en forholdsvis tørr avslutning. Mer humlet enn tradisjonelle engelske barley wines. En god avslutning på nok en flott Mandag i annen - stor takk til Sigmund and his crew!

Shared bottle at Mi2 at Cardinal 23.02.15. Hazy pale copper. Persistent, beige head. Sweetish aroma of dark, dried fruits. Similar, and heavy taste. Dark fruits and berries. Lots of plums.

Bottle pour into Goblet. Red orange color, not much head, slight lacing. Fruity, sweet aroma. Silty, not much carbonation. Sweet and slightly acrid flavor with lingering raisin flavor. Smooth finish, slightly bitter aftertaste. Fits the genre well. Enjoyable. High alcohol content is noticeable but not overpowering, does leave a bit of a boozy aftertaste.

Hazy orange with white head. Aroma of sweet and tropical fruit, candied malt sugar, hints of rum, hop and alcohol forward overall in aroma and taste. Flavor is hops and floral and booze. Malt makes more presence as it warms. A solid hoppy barleywine. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Red, brown with a cream foam. Aromas are toffee with spicy alcohol and marzipan. Alcohol burn with hedgerow berries, raisins and yeast. Multigrain with lemon. Flavours are mellow spiced oranges with toffee and peppery, nutty alcohol. Autumn fruit with leafy notes and biscuit dry malts. Very boozy finish. Nice.

Bottle from Baldwin road store. Pours deep amber with froth. Nose is hop and dark caramel. Body is full and smooth. Alcohol bite jumps out at the end. Strong raisin like notes. Pretty good in the genre but you gotta be in the mood.
