Did you also at some point in your life get seduced by promising words like ’probably the best in the world’, ’it works every time’ etc.? This American Barley Wine Ale says it how it is. It’s intense, attention seekingly hoppy, and definitely your kind of beer. A beer with a big ego, drive and a huge thirst for recognition.

Pours a clear and dark copper beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is malt, caramel, alcohol, fruit, dried fruit and hops with citrus. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is bitterness and sweetness. Overall a good beer.

12oz bottle Poured into a snifter -- Is an amber beer with a slight red twinge to it. Small head that occasionally sticks to my glass. Aroma is booze, toffee, hops. Flavor is just a plain and simple good Barley Wine. I think this just took over as my favorite BW.

Nice dark amber with minimal head. Malty with some floral hops. Nice slightly bitter finish. Bitter aftertaste. Alcohol masked well, good barley wine but better options out there.

12 onces.

Pours murky brown with a small yellowish head. Smells malty, caramel, hints of resin. Taste is sweet, surprising bitterness. Full-bodied with a slick texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Evil Twin Freudian Slip finishes with a soft lingering bitterness coupled with a supple sweetness.

Pours a nice reddish amber with lasting off-white head and good lacing with tons of sediment. This bottle is ~5 months old. Aroma initially is stale hops, but upon further review this might be intended since it’s not that strong. Beyond that, some earthy caramel and molasses. Taste is thick with rich, boozy, earthy toffee malts and dark fruit, quickly surpassed by a drying, resinous hops that bring some moderate bitterness. Ends sticky, rich, and dry, almost a bit too salty and sour. Not one of my favorite barleywines.

On tap at the Publick House. Comes to the table a slightly hazy deep amber/brown color with a decent sized head. Sweet caramel and brown sugar maltiness obliterated by a solid shot of earthy pine and resin. The flavor is sweet and a bit gritty with a solid earthy pine offset with lots of sweet caramel fruit and brown sugar with just touches of chocolate. Medium to thick body with alight to moderate level of carbonation. Nice barleywine, but seems like it needs a bit of time for the flavors to meld a little better.

Keg at Brewdog Shepherds Bush, London. A ruby/amber coloured pour with a medium off white head on top. Boozy, fruity, caramel aroma. Tastes rich, boozy, caramel, dark fruit, slightly sweet. Nice barley wine from Evil Twin.

Pours an opaque caramel brown with a very strong aroma to match. Good head for the style. Mouthfeel is substantial. Great earthy-malt backbone with some late bitterness. The alcohol presence is very subdued. Really good beer to sip overnight the course of an evening.
