3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 ounce bottle, label says best before 2015. I’ve had this bottle a while so I know it’s not exactly fresh. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a murky garnet/brown color with about a half inch light tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent. The brew smells like toffee, brown sugar, molasses, and dark fruit. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there’s the addition of some caramel, earthiness, pine and dark bread. Nice mix of sweet and bitter flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it’s a bit syrupy and sticky with moderate carbonation. I thought this brew was good, it’s worth a try. $11.99 a bottle.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
2011 vintage bottle at home - pours hazt amber with brown hue, small off-white head. Typical Mikkeller aroma of pine and stoved exotic fruits, raisins. Full body with immediate and heavy green bitter attack, sweetened out in the middle and drying up by the finish. Taste of salty caramel, nuts & raisins, pine and green apples. Not my favourite kind of barley wine. Okay.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz. bottle, with a best by date of ’2015’. Rich, toffeeish malt aroma, some pleasant sherry, perfume, raisin, cookie, and medicinal alcohol notes along with some herbal, fruity, faintly citric hop in the background. Opaque, dark rusty red-brown in color with a fine head that subsides. Flavor profile is quite intense with plenty of sweet, toasty, nutty, toffeeish and dark caramel malts, dried fruit, spicy, lightly piney hop tones and a substantial degree of bitterness that appears late and mingles with the peppery alcoholic warmth. Palate is ultimately somewhat dry from the effects of the huge hop addition and the feel is coating and lightly sticky, body is fairly huge. I do like this but not quite as much as I wanted to.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours cloudy brown/copper with a lacy, beige head. Aroma strong of caramel, toffee, light vanilla, a little chocolate plus some floral hops. Flavor the same, with a really nice blend of it all. Smooth texture. A good barley wine.

Overly sweet almost balanced but not quiet strong hop with stronger maltiness. It's okay. No head.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Moderate malt and ho aromas of cookie, roasted, cooked orange and orange zest, light dough for the yeast, with date, wood, toffee, brown sugar and alcohol. Head is small, frothy, light beige with fair lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is clear mahogany. Flavor is moderately sweet and lightly acidic to start, then finishes lightly sweet and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is medium to full, oily with a soft carbonation and a has a moderately astringent finish This Barley Wine doesn’t quite have the balance I like like to call it top notch, but it’s an excellent drinking beer.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Un vin d’orge doté d’une belle delicatesse, des bons sucres de magasin de bonbons, des houblons qui s’empilent mais sans jamais de battre. Pas assez souvent ma bouche ne rencontre robustesse et élégance dans une même gorgée.
