Pours a viscous, motor oil black color, with a small mohagony head, fading to a small lacing at the edge of the glass. The head yields huge bubbles, turning to decadent alcohol legs after swirling. Smells of moldy bitter chocolate, tons of fudge, a whiff of caramel and tobacco, tied together by a huge amount of roasted malts and bourbon soaked wood bark. While the Bourbon doubtlessly has a hot sting to it, it is well entangled into the beers soothing, rich malt qualities, creating a nutella like creaminess, as for a subtle hazelnuts layer on top. Has a low carbonation, leaving the spotlight on the beers full body, revealing a stunning creaminess, creating a silk mouthfeel, despite the hot Bourbon burn during the finish. While it begins earthy, with a profound roastiness to it, the beer develops a pungent, bitter dark chocolate character, mellowed by whipped cream and marshmellows. This balanced impression helps toffee, fudge and wooden vanilla to come up, while a tongue numbing sharpness follows immediately, once matured, dry oak hits the tastebuds. Profound Bourbon punches at the back of the throat for a short glance, producing a dry peak, balanced by mellow toffee, molasses and fresh brewed espresso. Leaves the palate as silk as during its beginning, while finishing way sweeter, to tame the very prominent, spicy Bourbon. There is a bit of an ambivalence going on in this for me. The beer produces a fantastic, utmost smooth mouthfeel, finding its antagonist in the equally profound Bourbon, which almost creates a certain harshness, numbing my palate. The same is true for a nutella like sweetness on the one hand, and dark bitter chocolate on the other. This beer is extreme. I find it astonishing that it is still able to exhibit a convincing balance, resulting in a sipper you can wrap your head around the whole evening.

Bottle thanks to Nathan. Pours a very dark brown with small beige head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong bourbon, wood, vanilla. Medium mouth, strong roast, bourbon, wood, light bitterness, very nice.

Bottle from notes (10/10/14). Pours oily black with a tiny quick wispy head that looked reddish/tan and faded to a tiny collar. Aroma was strong bourbon vanilla marshmallow with burnt roasted malt. Taste was much the same strong bourbon up front with bitter roasted malt chocolate and marshmallow slight oak and bitterness. Palate was full silky and warming from the boozy bourbon. Nice.

22 oz bottle split 3 ways. Pours a dark brown, damn near black. Two finger fluffy brown heads fades quickly and leaves a little lace. Aroma is full of bourbon and wet oak. Lots. Vanilla, dark fruit, anise and hints of char emerge. Taste is bourbon up front, sweetness in the back. In between the notes of roast/char...vanilla/oak...hints of creamy chocolate...bitter chocolate...anise...bitter coffee note. Solid beer, but finishes a bit thin for the ABV, letting the alcohol make itself present.

Bottle shared with MrHangover. Opaque pitch black color, medium to full sized thick dark brown head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, bourbon, chocolate, light vanilla. Taste malts, light roast, heavy bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, more chocolate, more bourbon, oak, moderately bitter with a sweet vanilla-chocolate-oak-bourbon touch. Perfect oily texture, full body, perfect soft yet suitable carbonation. Bloody hell this is awesome!

Bomber courtesy of Hackobock. Pours viscous pitch black with a creamy dark mocha head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass when dissipating. Smell is malty and tiny boozy with roasted malts, burnt caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, high quality dark chocolate, coffee dipped almond biscuits, toasted coconut, hazelnut and almond paste, Black Forest cake, moist soil and bourbon alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter and malty. Mouthfeel is fat, soft, viscous, round, slightly roasted astringent, slightly boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, burnt cookies, vanilla fudge, charred wood, luxurious dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, almond pastries, chocolate covered cherries, toasted coconut, moist soil and bourbon alcohol. Just as huge, decadent and tasty as the base biscotti break but with an added bourbon complexity making this an even more intriguing and tasty brew than it already was.
