3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Inky black pour with a thin, creamy brown head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, toast, roasted nuts, caramel, lots of char and smoky old campfire, just a hint of sweet berries. Flavor is sweet chocolate up front, lots of char, some sweet cherries, coffee, dark caramel, light piney hops and a slightly stronger hint of cherries to the finish. Honestly if the description didn’t mention cherries, I may not have picked them up. Heavy body, creamy to chewy feel and medium strength slightly sharp carbonation. Really good overall, but they didn’t do the base beer any favors with the cherries or whatever they did. I will admit as the beer warms the cherries come out a little more and add a little more positively to the beer, but still not enough to redeem it compared to the base beer.

Bottle to glass. Probably a year or two old. Pours a deep brown color with a tan head. Aroma is toasted malts, light chocolate covered cherry. Completely different aroma than the base beer! Flavor has a solid porter character to it, with just a touch of cherry. Probably my least favorite of the bunch, but still a solid porter nonetheless.

Again murky dark brown, nice ruby glint and a frothier sandy ringed head and no lacing. Nose is greasy, fleshy fruit and well dug tarry malt. Initial taste is smooth, keen fruit scalping and no notes of ABV or the heavy duty maltiness. Smoke, greasy, light cola and mouthfeel again greasy. Finishes a swirl of lean peppery sweetness and linger is peppery and a wink of the ABV.

Bottle. Great aroma of chocolate covered cherries and sugary glaze. Tastes like dry cocoa, cherry skins, and caramel. Regular biscotti is better.

Bottled. No clear date. Pours black with almost no head (small tan ring). Aroma is chocolate covered cherries, roasted malts, slight sour tart note. Flavor is roasted malts, slightly sour cherries, very sweet chocolate and fruit. The fruit is not overwhelming. It’s subtle and pleasant. Pretty solid.

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, some chocolate and coffee notes, hints of cherries, some light spices, and some hints of bitterness. Flavor the same with a great blend, but I think the cherries really take away from it. Smooth texture. A good beer.

Pours black with brown head. Medium body. Sour cherries, caramel, dark chocolate, salty flavor. Lots of bitterness from chocolate and cherries. Not as good as the imperial biscotti break bit still good.
