The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Fad: Ovenpå CBC var dette en fornøjelse at finde på fad på Søernes. Kulsort øl med et lille mokkabrunt skumhoved. Duft af kaffe og en tand chokolade. Virkelig lækker øl.

on tap @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Aroma of malt and chocolate, very appealing. Totally opaque black/brown with a tan head that drops to a thin cover, a sheet of lace. Taste is deep roasted malt that turns over, making way for silky milk chocolate to push right through the palate to a creamy lightly bittered, lightly warmed finish. A terrific concoction, distressingly easy to drink. High recommendations.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Clear, very dark brown. Just about black, really. Halo of tight, tan coloured head. Dark chocolate. Bonfire toffee. Treacle. Marzipan on the final sniff. Taste is thick sweetness. Then robust, chocolatey, roast malt dry. Coffee bean bitterness, followed by an apricot kernel, tangy, bitter finish.

Bottle, bought @ Ølbutikken, Cph. Pours deep opaque black with a small, rather fizzy, beige head. Aroma has lovely dark chocolate, coffee, almonds and walnuts. Medium, fairly prickly carbonation, fine creamy and dry mouthfeel. Flavour is lovely, elegant, fairly sweet. Almonds, coffee, toasted caramel, light vinious. Lingering, chewy malty bitterness. Nice.

22 oz bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a medium creamy brown head that slowly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet fudgy chocolate with some roast, flowers and some tart fruit.

The flavor is sweet lactic chocolate with some roast coffee, vanilla, fruit and a fairly bitter finish. The alcohol is warming but not overbearing. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, it’s OK. Too sweet and alcoholic for me. The floral fruitiness didn’t mesh well with the roast chocolate to me.

From bottle. Dark, dark brown. Almoat no head. Nose is liquorice, mocha and hazelnut. Taste is high percent cacao, espresso, mild cherry, and an unplacable nuttiness. Bitter. Oily.

Appearance: Black. Creamy brown head. No lacing that I can see. Smell: Rich and delicious. Biscotti, I suppose. Coffee and chocolate laden. So much it’s ridiculous. I don’t get the alcohol one bit. Taste/feel: To be honest, reminds me quite a lot of their Imperial Doughnut Break, as it has that same sort of doughiness (though not quite to the same extent), but with more and better flavor. Great creamy feel with a mild/moderate mouthfeel. Quite sweet, but also a deep roasted flavor with some bitterness on the finish. A lot of alcohol warmth here that dries the mouth right up. The alcohol can’t be tasted at all, but certainly felt. Incredibly good beer. $18 for a 22oz bottle is definitely a pretty hefty price, but it’s also one hell of a hefty brew. A fantastic biscotti/dough/coffee/sweet nose that tastes almost just as good. A big beer that’s well worth trying. One of the best beers I’ve ever had, for sure. A bit on the sweeter side, but that’s to be expected from this beer, I think... but that’s just a nitpick. Buy this beer.
