The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

650 ml bottle. Pours a dense black color with a small brown head that soon recedes to a fine film. The aroma is medium in strength with mocha, dark chocolates and blackened grains. The taste is a big blast of dark bitter chocolate, chocolate liqueur, mocha, vanilla, light anise, biscuit and bitter walnuts. The palate is thick and viscous with soft carbonation. Finishes long and bitter-sweet. Overall: First rate RIS-- I loved it.

Bottle, 22oz. A black beer topped by a small, dense, tan head. The aroma is really pleasant and complex, with vanilla, roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, some licorice and dried fruits. A hint of something liqouer like too. Sweet flavor with all the goodness from the aroma, mocha and roasted malts pulling most of the load. It’s full-bodied and faintly warming, with a very soft carbonation. Really lasting finish with a lot of heavy caramel sauce. Not an easy drinkable beer, but damn it’s tasteful and pleasant. Especially the aroma is fine. 131214

Black pour. Solid dark tan head. Fantastic nose. Chocolate, brown sugar, vanilla, coffee hints, and roasted malt. Taste is just as terrific. A little doughy. Thick chocolate bitterness, more vanilla, smoked dark fruit. Chewy and thick. Totally whips.

Pours like motor oil, black with a tan head. Solid roasted malts with a sweet background in the aroma. Milk chocolate, bitterness, and a mouthfeel that makes you feel like you could chew this beer. Fantastic.
