The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Dark brown with off white head. Aroma is hazelnut mocha. Taste follows nose, but ends a little to bitter for me.

On tap at Bigby’s Pour House in Addison, IL., presented as Imp. Biscotti Break Natale. Dispensed to a snifter with a murky, black/ brown hue, brownish tan froth to the head, and wavy lacing. The aroma was roasted, with a touch of smoke, rich chocolate, mintiness, anise hints, some nuttiness, and toasted, wafer-like scent to the malt. The taste was similar notes, full bodied, softly carbonated, with a subtle creaminess to the mouthfeel, and alcohol that was not boozy, but comfortably buried in the complexity. Very impressed!

Pitch black pour with a thin creamy khaki head and very light lacing .... aroma is delicious and of vanilla, cocoa, roasted malts and some fresh ground coffee .... taste is sweet and of vanilla, rich cocoa, roasted malts, sugary, chocolatey deliciousness with some fresh coffee to it ..... slight hint of abv in the aroma and taste and some warming in the finish ... mouthfeel is thick and oily .... finish has a bitterness to it and roasted sweetness .... this is tough I never thought something would beat Victory at Sea, but it was bound to happen

Eben blsck with dark brown dense, thin head. Aroma is sweet and roasted with licorice, suryp, medical herbs, dark chocolate, ash, coffee. Flavor has lots of chocolate, oily with soft carbonation, sweet and roasted, finish has also chocolate. Tasty and nuanced, great flavors, great chocolate flavor, like good dessert.

Black body, very small brown head. Aroma has much caramel, chocolate, coffee and dark fruity liqueur with bisquits. Strong alcohol in taste. Chocolate cookies and booze. Strangely I like this.

Bottle - pours pitch with a tan head. Aroma is fabulous, sweet bread, vanilla, brown sugar and yumminess. Mouth feel is dry, but with a thickness that lingers in the mouth. Very nice!

On tap. Pours pitch black with an off-white head. Super delicious aroma, both sweet coffee and biscuits combined with prune puree and chestnuts. Rich body, yet not super heavy making it surprisingly drinkable. A soft and smooth roastiness, vanilla sugar yet never cloying, dark dried fruit and subtle coffee. Everything about this beer seem to be in perfect balance making it extremely enjoyable. Even the booze is hard to detect. Excellent. 311013

Bottle poured a black color with a coating of dark brown head that took some agressive pouring to produce. Aroma has huge dark roasted malt, coffee, sweet chocolate, and some hazelnut. Mouth feel is heavy with a big thick body and low side carbonation but it is there. Flavor again has rich roasted malt, chocolate, nuts, coffee, and a light sweetness.
