The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Great brown head, pristine bubbles. Pitch black body. Aroma of dark malts, yet roastiness is not overpowering (like in most imperial stouts). Not really hoppy, very sweet and even vanilla-like overall. Taste is primarily sweet, ballanced by pleasant hoppy bittnerness. Very drinkable. First-class imperial stout.

Courtesy of and thanks to tderoeck. 655 ml. bottle sampled @ “Procrastinated Spontaneity /…………/ 2 Boekjes” tasting @ Gent. Darker brown blackish with little head. Smells like chocolate syrup, sweet, simple syrupy with some sweetened coffee, touch nuts, melted milk chocolate. Tastes like cold coffee, chocolate syrup, hint anis, dash molasses, sweet sugary, cacao powder, melted milkchocolate, sweetish, touch hazelnuts. Little carbonation, syrup feel to it. Nice beer but a bit simple, quite reminiscent of chocolate syrup which makes me wonder a bit about the whole hype behind. I did enjoy blending this beer with about 6 different Mikkeller Spontan beers. My favourite was SpontanElderflower, worked really, delicious stuff.

I have never seen such head! The bubbles put themselves in regular grid :) Enough about the head (dark beige and beautiful though!). Aroma nuts, milk chocolate, sweet, no alcohol. Taste. Creamy, sweet, nutty, milk-coffee. No alcohol felt what so ever. One of the most drinkable imperial stouts\porters, I’ve had.

Draught at Cuda na kiju in Warsaw. Beige leaking head. Drunk outside so maybe in nose just dark chockolate notes. Taste: cookies topped in caramell and dipped in espresso, some dry dark fruits. So smooth, can’t feel alcohol, though 11,5 % abv. Give me another one!

Poured from tap to glass. Dark brown hue with brown creamy head. Aroma is chocolate, figs, coffee, caramel, molasses, malted barley, vanilla. Mouthfeel is great with a full body and good carbonation. Taste is sweet initially with a bitter astringent following and ethanol finish. Overall this is a good sweet stout.

Draft at Closed for Business, Charleston, SC. Usually never rate anything this high but wow, this brew is special. A dark mahogany body with nice caramel lacing. Smells of bread, sugar, chocolate, dark fruits and roasted malts compliment a near perfect silk mouthfeel. The flavor is very unique, morning coffee, Italian sweet cream, figs, molasses, and well..biscotti. You have to try it, no excuses.

650 ml. Ebon with an eighth inch of brown sugary foam. Nose is espresso, raw peanut, chocolate and vanilla. Taste is vanilla, biscuit, dry cocoa, peanut and toasted oak. Medium-heavy body is smooth with medium carbonation. Small note of the abv and a good balance.
