COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Great RIS, potent, velvety, full of aromas - chocolate and Belgian pralines. Bitterness at medium high level. Very sweet, but not cloying. Smooth and thick at the palate.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2013 Pours black with tan head, aroma is sweet nutty notes and roast. Taste is big bitter up front with a kind of strange sweet alcohol finish, tasty though

Bottle, shared with a group of friends at Grippitis’ Christmas party. Hearty, viscous near black pour. Sweet chocolatey aroma, hazelnuts, coffee. Rich flavours of the same, dense, velvety. This is a massively rich treat, and as a dessert beer it succeeds beautifully. Immensely satisfying.

CamdenD (1094) - Madrid, SPAIN - DEC 18, 2013
A very nice and strong imperial stout. This one is sweet though. The mouthfeel is sticky, and not all that pleasantly so. Aroma is coffee and a bit of booze and is nice. Pours jet black as it should. The rest, well, somewhat of a let-down but still obviously drinkable.

22oz bottle: pour is like crude. Pitch black and oil. Dark brown head. Amazing aroma of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, raisin, and hints of hazelnuts. Sweet milk chocolate and burnt caramel flavors up front transitioning to mocha, dark chocolate and coffee. Hints of sweet smokey vanilla. Thick, smooth creamy mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden.

UPDATED: DEC 17, 2013 On tap at Bittercreek Alehouse. Have already consumed Ivan the Terrible, Even More Jesus, and Lil’ B. Like dessert in a glass. Hope I’m still able to be objective.

Bottle. Pours black with thick head. Aromas is vanilla, coffee. Taste is heavy on the vanilla, the coffee fades to a background note. Nicely balanced sweetness (marzipan?) in a heavy stout. Can’t wait to try the BA version.

650 ml bottle. Pours a dense black color with a small brown head that soon recedes to a fine film. The aroma is medium in strength with mocha, dark chocolates and blackened grains. The taste is a big blast of dark bitter chocolate, chocolate liqueur, mocha, vanilla, light anise, biscuit and bitter walnuts. The palate is thick and viscous with soft carbonation. Finishes long and bitter-sweet. Overall: First rate RIS-- I loved it.
