The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Bottle: Poured a deep black color porter with a medium size dirty brown color head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt notes with some light caramel with some vanilla and Italian cookie notes. Taste is also dominated by chocolate malt notes with some vanilla and Italian biscuit notes with light dry roasted malt notes. Body is quite full with light creamy texture and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Very impressive amount of complexity while retaining a good level of drinkability.

Aroma is a rich, wonderful combination of coffee and raisinets. Cola brown, thin beige head, legs. Coffee dominated flavor, raisins and soil underneath. Lighter body than expected given its viscosity. A little boozy.

Bomber. F the dago Romans and their dam biscotti. Exercise suit wearing no show job sittin Jersey Momo’s. Oh....this isnt the Sopranos...I digress. Bottle supplied by Art the momo of train tracks. Enjoyed during mindless movie Friday. A slick black that has no intitial head after pour, but which appears ten seconds later in an eruption from the bottom of the glass. Mellowed coffee seeps into palate after I was looking for the elephants. Red Wedding!

Bottle. Pours like old motor oil, solid black and viscous, with little to no head. The aroma is abusive, overpoweringly heavy with sweet milk chocolate and alcohol. This drinks with a full-on, heavy syrup consistency, not far off from a batch of over-strongly-made chocolate milk. The 11.5% is well obscured, but the heaviness of this beer hints at the gravity of it, and I must remind myself to go slowly. Wow. (#5048, 6/5/2013)

22oz bottle in a snifter. Pours black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, some coffee, floral hops, and hints of alcohol. Flavor the same, with a nice blend of everything but a little harsh. Smooth to thicker texture. A good beer, but could be a little more refined.
