COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Split bottle with friends. Poured a dark brown color with a medium sized tan head. Chocolate notes, with a touch of coffee bitterness is coming through this one seriously. This is like having breakfast. Very good! Alcohol is pretty subdued in this one for being 11.5%. Nice!

Draft at the Blind Tiger Ale House, NYC. Let me start by saying that this is one of the best beers I’ve had in my life... Poured in a big snifter, it looks quite impressive with its piano black, opaque color, and a thick, very creamy beige head that persists for very long. The smell is just superb, very classy mixture of roasted notes with sweet milk chocolate, biscotti, vanilla, some hazelnut and dark coffee. The flavor follows the smell and never disappoints. For such a strongly alcoholic brew (11.5!) it is surprisingly smooth. The mouthfeel is lusciously dense, almost oily, with a long-lasting aftertaste that adds just the right amount of bitterness to balance the heavy dessert-like flavors. This is a beer that you want to last forever in the glass. Awesome.

Draught at Capone’s: Aroma of malt, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, light hazelnut, and some roasting. Poured extremely dark brown/black in color with a medium-sized, creamy, dense, brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Slightly sparkling. Excellent lacing. Complex flavor is heavily sweet. Tastes of malt, roast, chocolate, vanilla, slight coffee, almond milk, slight creme brulee, and a hint of sugar. Full body. Creamy, slick, then dry texture. Soft to average carbonation. Malt, vanilla, chocolate, roast, slight nut, finish is dry. 11.5%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 On tap at Brouwer?s Back in Black 2012. Pours black, with a burnt mocha head. Very pretty. Nose is a dream. Like seafoam candy, toasted bread, and deep, dark chocolate, with some espresso and maybe a bit of marshmallow. Dessert in a glass -- and the aroma is quite pungent. The flavor doesn?t disappoint. It has just the right thickness, and the booze provides a bit of balance while being covered well by that dessert-like sweetness. Just lovely -- one of the best beers I?ve had in a while.

25 oz bottle. Dark brown with tan froth. Nose is dark chocolate, espresso, toasted nuts and smoke. Silky medium body with a slight tingle. Taste is chocolate syrup, hazelnut, prune, vanilla and black coffee. Rich and decadent; everything i hoped for after missing this on tap.

Draft at Churchkey. Monstrously black pour with a tan head. Nose and flavor are soooo so rich and full of nutty pecan and vanilla, chocolate ganache and truffle, and really just liquid Ferrero Rocher candies. Incredibly lush and rich. Awesome awesome stuff.

22oz bottle. Pours pitch black with a surprisingly dark head, mocha brown specifically, which recedes quickly and leaves little lacing. Whoa, lots of stuff blending together in the nose. Toasted almonds, milk chocolate, roasted coffee and a little bit of vanilla. Taste is just as complex with sweet cream, bitter chocolate, nuts, espresso, vanilla and definitely some almond milk. Roasty finish. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy with soft carbonation. This is an excellent impy porter and probably the best beer I’ve had from Evil Twin. Dessert and breakfast rolled into one and bottled. Loved it.

Sample at the Twelve Percent Imports tasting at Ale Wine & Spirits on 4/20/12. Thick, pitch black pour with a medium tan head. Nice raisiny dark fruit nose with chocolate, roasty coffee and subtle vanilla and nut. Chocolate and marshmallow flavor followed by a nice almond character before a bitter, roasty coffee finish. One of the nicest stouts I’ve had in quite a while.

Draft. Poured black color with an average to large frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee, dark malt, vanilla, dough and alcohol aroma. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy dark roasted coffee sweet flavor with medium to heavy sweet finish of long duration. Standout complex beer.
