The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Pours very dark coffee brown with a brown head that dissipates quickly.. Aroma of coffee, prunes and chocolate. Flavor is ultra rich - sweet and thick on the front end, a bit dry on the back. Can taste the alcohol. Very full-bodied, thick and a bit oily. Rich full body that doesn’t linger too long. A very nice beer, but didn’t quite live up to the hype.

S: chocolate. coffee. hugely decedent but a bit of a bitter backend. A: looks good... super thick. little head retention. Black as night. T: Again, super indulgent. Huge chocolate and coffee. Super thick, sweet. Finish is boozy and bitter. P: Full on milkshake here. It’s way too thick for me.... Also finish is very bitter. very very bitter. Overall this is just too much. Huge coffee and chocolate flavors but the mouthfeel is like a smoothie..... To me, it brings the flavors of a thinner porter like harviestoon but it the mouthfeel is overly thick.

Pours pitch black with a very dark brown head. Aroma of coffee, prunes, dark malts, chocolate, and white grapes. Flavor is much the same. Lots of those prune and grapes going on with balanced coffee and chocolate. Kind of reminiscent of some older dark lords. Rich full body that doesn’t linger too long.

Fuggin A bro. Bombers pours jet black with an impressive tan head. Nose of dark and milk chocolate. Taste is a tad on the sweet side. Light toffee is added to the chocolate elements. Light roast on the finish.

Pours a thick black with an espresso head that leaves a few islands on top. Aroma is rich chocolate, coffee, and cookie dough. Taste is wonderfully rich chocolate, coffee, chocolate chip cookie dough and just a hint of booze. Velvety thick on the palate and really delicious.

22 ounce bottle shared among 6. Aroma is huge on sweet chocolate bread pudding, a nestle crunch bar melted in a cup of espresso. Appearance is pitch black, very little foam, syrupy, lacing coats the glass, swirls around like Hershey’s syrup. Taste is big on chocolate and strong coffee with yeasty, half-baked, doughy bread and oats playing second fiddle. This is one of the sweeter imperial stouts I’ve had in a while. Palate isn’t as thick as some of the other big ones out there, but it’s still a husky one, thick bodied and creamy with medium to low carbonation. Overall this is an excellent dessert beer. if you somehow drink any more than a small glass, you’ll be belly up like a kid who just ate a gallon of ice cream.

Bomber from Frank Smith’s. Pours hay dark brown toward black with minimal off-tan head. Nose was roasty dark malt, prunes, blackberry, port, mild smokiness, hops. Tasted incredibly complex, with up front notes of roasty dark malts, cacao, hops, blackberry, and an overall dryish finish. This one impressed the regular beer share crew at the Tuesday Craft Ale House Beer Share event, and was delicious.

Aroma of chocolate, almond, slight anis, and cappuccino. Pours black with a nice brown lacing. Taste is sweet with coffee forward, vanilla, slight licorice and roasty chocolate. This is amazing.
