3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
[ Tap ][ 4oz ][ @Max’s ][ $3 ][ Mini Weizen-glass ][ 7/23/14 ]
Hazy sepia, thin cream head drops to oil wisps. Roast and soft cookie nose, incredible balance with high attenuation, lightest anise elements. Flavor a clear step down, boozy tar early with hot medicinal across mid, cloying anise chocolate as a result. High sweetness through the sticky finish, light ash astringency before the cookie returns to soften it. European impy tar, lightly astringent and hot, unfortunate given the balance in the nose.

Aroma of lots of biscuits and toffee. Taste is toffee, almonds and other nuts, biscuity malt, nice alcohol warming, very good!

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 ounce bottle - $15.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Appearance: Chugs out an onyx black body with a thickish, slowly receding, dark tan-hued head.
Smell: IB is marked by its unmistakable almond-scented nose that literally jumps out of the glass, followed fast by robust, just-roasted coffee, melty sweet chocolate, subtle vanilla beans, steeped prunes, and a splash of clean alcohol.
Taste: A double-chocolate almond cookie dunked in rich morning-fresh coffee generously dosed with sweetened vanilla-flavored almond milk and even a drip of Amaretto. A dark fruitiness shortly creeps in, as does a (very) little roasty bitterness, maybe a snippet of restrained leafy, tobacco-laced hops. The various flavors, some nutty, and the dessert-like sweetness just roll back and forth over the tongue, progressing beyond the smooth, slightly warming, slightly drying finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Silky mouthfeel.
Overall: Listen, if you can’t get excited about this beer, you don’t deserve coffee, vanilla beans OR almonds.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. I usually like to break down each component and aroma, but simply put, this smalls exactly like a toasted biscotti, maybe with a hint of dark chocolate. Head is small, creamy, light brown with spotty lacing and good legs and is almost fully diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet and heavily bitter. Palate is full, creamy verging on syrupy, with a soft carbonation and a moderately alcoholic finish. Awesome Strong Porter inside and out, both slow sipping and easy drinking, while being hugely complex.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
An awesome imperial stout. Pours a deep creamy black with a tan head. Smells of milk and vanilla, with some mocha and caramel. Taste is slightly hoppy upfront, which is quickly smoothed out by the vanilla and milk. Finishes sweet and smooth, with a great lip-licking aftertaste. Compared to the doughnut break, this one is less imperial. More milk and vanilla, and smoother overall, but a bit less complex. More of an easy drinker, and hides the alcohol a bit better. Had in the bottle in Nova Scotia.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On a ROLL, another fine one by ET. I’m back at the rating game... at least for a little bit longer.... Pours dark brown to black, strong chocolate colored head, although it dissipates fairly quickly to a nice ring but with only average lacing for the style. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, some dog food grains (in a sort of good way), vanilla. Flavor of coffee, chocolate, milk, dark fruits, licorice, caramel, toffee, lingering sweetness. Mouthfeel full to slightly sticky, residual grainy powdery feel too. Low carbonation. YUM! Woo, hoo, ET!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sweet on nose and overall flavored, on nose hints of milk chocolate, cocoa, cinnamon. Soft textured, sweet taste with minimal to light bitter. Light to none hops touch, compared with Bible Belt, this brew is like dark malts lemonade. But thick, close to full bodied, enjoyable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
650ml bottle. Pours out very dark brown with a good amount of head. No real retention, however. Aroma has all kinds of influences. Chocolate, coffee, molasses and nuts are all vying for attention. Taste is sweet, thick and oily with many of those elements breaking through again. Some excellent flavours but the whole thing just didn’t seem to coalesce for me. Still very impressive though.
