3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 peteinSD (958) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 10, 2012Bottle. Sillky black pour with a thin froth of expresso colored foam which fades out quickly. Aroma is dense chocolate, cocoa, roast, coffee, and some darker malt with raisin lurking in the back. Taste is ultra heavy and potent chocolate with coffee, balancing hop bitterness, subtle raisin, and a fairly clean finish of chocolate bitterness and slight alcohol. Creamy, smooth mouthfeel. Ultra chocolate imperial stout. Not necessarily any better IMHO than much less costly, more widely available imperial stouts but if you want a ton of chocolate this is the beer.

Pours black with tan head and very little lacing. Aroma of creamy candy chocolate. Taste of milk chocolate, vanilla, and alcohol burn on the back end. It reminds me of drinking a milk chocolate liquor. Very nice desert beer.

Pour black with a small ring of brown bubbles. Head disappear quickly. Aroma is chocolate covered coffee beans with hints of vanilla. Does remind me slightly of biscotti. Thick and rich. Roasted malts are present first then finished sweet and slightly dry.

Found my May 2012 notes from visit to Tap and Mallet. Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is full of roasted malts with some coffee and a note of sweet vanilla underlying. Flavor has lots O roasted malts and a hint of coffee with a sweet finish of vanilla. A little bit of alcohol burn. Plenty warming.

Pours very dark coffee brown with a brown head that dissipates quickly.. Aroma of coffee, prunes and chocolate. Flavor is ultra rich - sweet and thick on the front end, a bit dry on the back. Can taste the alcohol. Very full-bodied, thick and a bit oily. Rich full body that doesn’t linger too long.
A very nice beer, but didn’t quite live up to the hype.

S: chocolate. coffee. hugely decedent but a bit of a bitter backend.
A: looks good... super thick. little head retention. Black as night.
T: Again, super indulgent. Huge chocolate and coffee. Super thick, sweet. Finish is boozy and bitter.
P: Full on milkshake here. It’s way too thick for me.... Also finish is very bitter. very very bitter.
Overall this is just too much. Huge coffee and chocolate flavors but the mouthfeel is like a smoothie..... To me, it brings the flavors of a thinner porter like harviestoon but it the mouthfeel is overly thick.

Pours pitch black with a very dark brown head. Aroma of coffee, prunes, dark malts, chocolate, and white grapes. Flavor is much the same. Lots of those prune and grapes going on with balanced coffee and chocolate. Kind of reminiscent of some older dark lords. Rich full body that doesn’t linger too long.
