The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Appearance: Poured with not head to speak of. Head could be forced by a vigorous swirl of the glass. This is pitch black and as I poured it the guys in the room all said "wow" because of the viscosity and the complete blackness. Smell: Coffee and a dark chocolate with molasses. There is some toasted notes also. There is a bitter coffee ground smell, too. Taste: This is like drinking a chocolate brownie! Coffee and sweet molasses show up and something that makes my pucker. Mouthfeel: This is one chewy beer. I feel like I need to chew instead of just swallow when I drink this one. It coates every corner of my mouth with thickness that lingers between sips. No carbonation on this at all. Overall: This is definitaly a beer that must be shared IMO because of how big it is. Although I did enjoy this it is one that is very bold and a HUGE beer.

Bomber @ $16.99. Vanilla soft aroma with hints of mellow coffee and toast. Thick flavor but very smooth...as silk honestly. Burnt coffee, vanilla, hints of bread, cocoa, booze, and syrup. Dank!

Bottle, must have been from 2012. It pours a deep, thick black with a dark brown head that grows to a half-inch, only to fizz away quickly. Beautiful. You take a whiff and find milk chocolate, some coffee, dates, raisins, figs, pumpernickel, and lots of boozy goodness. Roasted and fruity notes exist in complete harmony here. The alcohol is complementary, not detrimental, and gives the beer a beautiful spicy edge. The mouthfeel is substantial, with a viscous, but very smooth and silky, body and soothing carbonation that just makes it come to life and no more. Incredible. The taste is marginally less impressive than the nose, but still wonderful, with a toffee and dried-fruit sweet balanced by a roasted-barley and coffee bitter. Sugary dried fruits, cocoa, and alcohol linger under the palate for a bit. Almost as memorable as Even More Jesus himself. Promises of almonds and coffee were made and not completely fulfilled, but all is forgiven, because this is some industrial-grade goodness. Dark, viscous, sticky, boozy goodness. This is so good, it will pair up beautifully with a range of great foods, but it remains a breakfast beer at its core, so I think it goes best with an almond croissant (a good one) and some creme Chantilly.

One of my favorite offerings from evil twin. Thick dark brown pour and good lacing. Chocolate, cookies, fresh dough, toffee, maple, and vanilla on the nose. Creamy and sweet, like melted chocolate ice cream. Nice toasted malt, bread, cinnamon. Really excellent.

Dark with just a hint of burgundy around the edges. Cookie and baked bread aromas are very nice. Sweetened body of brown sugar and roasted figs. Good roast finish but the alcohol burns it off quickly.

This damn jet-black bomber with kakhi head from Evil Twin is nothing to mess with. Huge aroma and taste of coffee, malt, caramel, and rich creaminess. Another expensive, but fun trip from Evil Twin. 22oz bomber.

Pitch black beer with a foamy caramel coloured head. Smells of biscotti, molasses and slightly of malts. Taste is an opulent, rich dark chocolate and sweet biscotti biscuit. There is a pleasant coffee bitterness involved too. This beer is a replacement for desert or you could just have this instead of a breakfast coffee.

Bottle. Chocolate fudge, light cinnamon, and hay aroma. Black with small head. Very sweet chocolate fudge malt, and lightly bitter grass/hay flavor. Nice balance - sweet without being cloying. Very pleasant.
