COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Ar: Dark, deep, almost bitter smell. AP: like any stout, pitch black with medium tan head. Taste: Smooth, velvety, wow! I have to say, hard to sip this bad boy when its this good. Full, creamy body...perfectly balanced. Great beer!!!!

Can at home. This was a surprise -- despite hearing great things about this beer, it was really thin and there was a distinct tartness from the lower pH from the dark malts. The cocoa and almond aromas helped deepen everything, but it still was just a middle-of-the-pack imperial stout.

Pours black with a small mocha head that quickly dissipated into a thin film. Aroma is dark chocolate, roast, coffee, vanilla and toffee. Taste is sweet with mild bitters. Full bodied with an oily almost creamy texture. Soft carbonation and overall a great stout that maintains a great balance by never becoming to sweet.

The flavors are great, but not perfect. The best thing about this beer is the 11.5% alcohol.

Canned. Shared by my friend Paul from San Diego. Almost pitch black color. Fantastic spicy aroma plus espresso, dark chocolate. Taste mirrors the aroma, but it has a lower body. Overall fantastic nevertheless the low body.

That is good - thanks Beer Gonzo. For a big stout, it keeps its head well and the lacing is good. Lovely palate - thick, creamy, frothy, alcohol bite. The vanilla and almond smooth out the bitter chocolate taste, and we also get syrupy oils, nuts and toasted malt.

Can from Bottle Baron. Black body with a medium beige head that gradually fades. Good lacing. Aroma of caramel, fig roll and nuts. Flavour of biscotti biscuit, prunes, espresso and chocolate ice-cream. Medium to full body with a thick, sticky mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Boozy but tasty. Quite heavy going.

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2016 Head to head with imperial biscotti BBA: Pours black oily color, clear, with tan brown head, which immediately transforms itself to a ring around the glass. Aroma: dark, roasted malts, with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, molasses, cantuccini biscuits, hint of peat, leather...flavor: intense dark, roasted malt flavor, with notes of dark chocolate, cacao nibs, coffee, vanilla, licorice, molasses, cantuccini, dark fruits...finish is slightly bitter, astringent, body is full, texture is super smooth, carbonation is low. Imperial stout with big aging potentials.

On tap at Gnarly Barley. Licorice and molasses aroma with some pine hops. Opaque black and thick and oily under with no head. Sweet vanilla and pumpernickel with dark chocolate and resin hops bitterness. Licorice accents. Clean finish, medium full body, moderate to low carbonation. Slightly warming.

Poured from 16oz can. Aroma nails biscotti, with some dry cocoa. Stout black with big tan lacing head. Tasting dry cocoa, annisette, licorice (redundant), almond extract, coffee, sweet malt, vanilla, touch of spice. What I’m not tasting is alcohol, which is crazy given the percentage. Slightly sticky feel, but that is understandable considering all the flavors. This is a phenomenal beer, but one that I probably won’t have again due to the Alcohol content.

Black. Rich roasted malty flavour with a good deal of chocolate and some coffee notes. Sweet taste with medium bitterness. Full body. Very good.
