3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: DEC 31, 2012 Bottle. Pours a thick black with a very thin tan head. Aroma is coffee liqueur, bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, caramel, graham crackers, roasted coffee, and fig, and almond. Flavor is bittersweet chocolate, coffee liqueur, vanilla, brown sugar, fig, almond, and caramel. On the palate the beer is thick, very syrup like and full bodied. Light carbonation. Alcohol is noticeable, unfortunately the beer is a bit too sweet which with the alcohol makes it too much like a liqueur.

Nice...like a cookie beer. Thick black pour. Aroma of vanilla and caramel. Taste had more milk chocolate flavor but a nice malty and toffee backbone. Plenty of booze in there too. Heavy mouthfeel...great stuff.

I open the bottle and pour a toasty-chocolate, thick, dark liquid into my glass and my nose follows a heavy vanilla accent in after it. The head, soft and dark, is speckled with even darker accents; the foam is almost insignificant and definitely short-lived. The creamy texture of this beer warrants a thought of dessert, but I could imagine pairing this with a tender lightly seasoned pork loin or a cool bowl of soft ice cream. The feel is a light carbonation, not as silky as it pours, but it definitely plays over your tongue. Boozy, but not overwhelming, and an experience I’ll look for again!

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
If I had to sum this beer up in a phrase, I would say, "Like sipping a dark chocolate coffee malt." The coffee notes come most strongly at the end. The mouthfeel was smooth as silk. This beer would go well with the beach, or the episode of I Love Lucy with the chocolates, or served at a 50s-themed diner (for obvious reasons).
I should add that the bottle says it is an Imperial Stout, not an Imperial Porter, which is how ratebeer has labeled it.

[ Tap ][ 4oz ][ @Max’s ][ $3 ][ Mini Weizen-glass ][ 7/23/14 ]
Hazy sepia, thin cream head drops to oil wisps. Roast and soft cookie nose, incredible balance with high attenuation, lightest anise elements. Flavor a clear step down, boozy tar early with hot medicinal across mid, cloying anise chocolate as a result. High sweetness through the sticky finish, light ash astringency before the cookie returns to soften it. European impy tar, lightly astringent and hot, unfortunate given the balance in the nose.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 ounce bottle - $15.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Appearance: Chugs out an onyx black body with a thickish, slowly receding, dark tan-hued head.
Smell: IB is marked by its unmistakable almond-scented nose that literally jumps out of the glass, followed fast by robust, just-roasted coffee, melty sweet chocolate, subtle vanilla beans, steeped prunes, and a splash of clean alcohol.
Taste: A double-chocolate almond cookie dunked in rich morning-fresh coffee generously dosed with sweetened vanilla-flavored almond milk and even a drip of Amaretto. A dark fruitiness shortly creeps in, as does a (very) little roasty bitterness, maybe a snippet of restrained leafy, tobacco-laced hops. The various flavors, some nutty, and the dessert-like sweetness just roll back and forth over the tongue, progressing beyond the smooth, slightly warming, slightly drying finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Silky mouthfeel.
Overall: Listen, if you can’t get excited about this beer, you don’t deserve coffee, vanilla beans OR almonds.
