The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Great imperial porter! Really chicolately aroma almost coffee like. The taste is chocolatelty and hints of coffee. A little toasty background. Sligthly sweet but I like it!

Bottle at Warszawski festiwal piwa. Lots of chocolate and cookies in aroma, light roasty note. Taste is sweet, very nice chocolate flavor, pralines, biscuits.

Can from Bridgend Services, Freuchie. Pours thick and dark. Cola-coloured. Thin, tan head. Decadent dessert aroma. Lots of the vanilla upfront. Coffee backs the vanilla up beautifully. The almond does not shine through as brightly but definitely has some presence. Roasty, toasty backbone. Melted marshmallow. Chocolate milkshake. A bit prickly on the nose from the alcohol. Taste has a lovely thick, malty sweet note to start. An overly caramelised, slightly bitter note brings that into balance. Earthy coffee brings another layer. Angry tiramisu flavours with a tad too much espresso bitterness. There’s a lovely long, nutty and bitter finish. Bit more vanilla in the finish. Coffee mouth right at the end. The abv is more integrated in the tasting. Richness, decadence, deliciousness......But for some reason, and I’m not quite sure why, I’m a little bit disappointed with this....???

Sampled from a 16 oz can this beer poured thick and black with an enormous creamy brown head that lingered forever and left good lacing. The aroma was vodka, cocoa powder, coffee and vanilla. The flavor was intensely boozy with a vodka presence followed by sweet tiramisu with coffee and vanilla notes. Very long finish. Booziness overwhelms. Moderately full bodied. Interesting

Can thanks to Jimmy. Pours very dark brown, almost opaque. Nose: first I strangely got chili, but after sipping for a while it is definitely mostly amaretto, also coffee and vanilla, molasses. In taste I also first got weird chili taste without burn but later sweet caramel, fudge, coffee and vanilla, cocoa. Interesting beer, in a good way.

Can picked up from Mother Kellys Bottle Shop, Homerton, London, consumed at home Sunday 9th October 2016. Shared with Geraint down the office. Pours black, maybe very dark brown with a creamy beige colour head. Creamy mouthfeel, nutty with chocolate and coffee, really smooth easy drinking for the strength. Nice beer. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Caramel, dark chocolate, molasses, amaretto (almond) and coffee in the nose. Taste follows the nose but not as intense. Indeed a much thinner body than expected but slightly boozy nonetheless. The upside is it is not overwhelming, not too sweet and super well-balanced.

16 ounce can. Pours an opaque black color with a small creamy tan head. Intense roasted malt aroma. Hints of espresso and almond as well. First sip is intense bitter roasted malt. Notes of espresso and almond liqueur in mid-taste. Bittersweet cocoa and boozy notes in finish. As this warms, it becomes more complex and intriguing. A real sipping brew.

Donkerzwart met mokkakleurige schuimkraag die langzaamaan wegebt tot fijn laagje. Pure chocolade, pruimen, rozijnen. Redelijk zoet van smaak met chocolade-achtige vanille afdronk. Subliem klein bittertje achteraf. Heerlijk !!

Can (pint) from Good Beers NYC. Beautiful rich nose of vanilla and chocolate. Same continues in smooth rich multilayered palate. Brilliant in every aspect.
