COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Best by 2015. Spills from the bottle in a syrupy stream. Black as night, brown head with decent retention. Big, roasty coffee aroma. Silky smooth body is plenty viscous. Sweet, bready malts layered with coffee = deliciousness. I'm convinced the level of polish on this RIS came from Westbrook, not Jeppe. IBB is one of the select few shelf beers I insta-purchase whenever I see it on the shelf.

22 oz bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a medium creamy brown head that slowly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet fudgy chocolate with some roast, flowers and some tart fruit.

The flavor is sweet lactic chocolate with some roast coffee, vanilla, fruit and a fairly bitter finish. The alcohol is warming but not overbearing. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, it’s OK. Too sweet and alcoholic for me. The floral fruitiness didn’t mesh well with the roast chocolate to me.

On tap at Øltorget, january 10th 2014. Black body, dark brown head. Nice looking! Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, fruit. Taste of licorice, coffee, chocolate and vanilla pastry. Pleasant bitterness with a nutty chocolate finish. Excellent body with a nice complex taste.

From bottle. Dark, dark brown. Almoat no head. Nose is liquorice, mocha and hazelnut. Taste is high percent cacao, espresso, mild cherry, and an unplacable nuttiness. Bitter. Oily.

Appearance: Black. Creamy brown head. No lacing that I can see. Smell: Rich and delicious. Biscotti, I suppose. Coffee and chocolate laden. So much it’s ridiculous. I don’t get the alcohol one bit. Taste/feel: To be honest, reminds me quite a lot of their Imperial Doughnut Break, as it has that same sort of doughiness (though not quite to the same extent), but with more and better flavor. Great creamy feel with a mild/moderate mouthfeel. Quite sweet, but also a deep roasted flavor with some bitterness on the finish. A lot of alcohol warmth here that dries the mouth right up. The alcohol can’t be tasted at all, but certainly felt. Incredibly good beer. $18 for a 22oz bottle is definitely a pretty hefty price, but it’s also one hell of a hefty brew. A fantastic biscotti/dough/coffee/sweet nose that tastes almost just as good. A big beer that’s well worth trying. One of the best beers I’ve ever had, for sure. A bit on the sweeter side, but that’s to be expected from this beer, I think... but that’s just a nitpick. Buy this beer.

sample at Classic City Beer Fest. Thick dark brown pour with mocha head. Dark cocoa and thick coffee, with some dark fruits, nutty. Thick velvet mouth. Lovely and bold.

Bottled. Pours black in color with a tan head. Roasted malts, chocolate, hazelnuts and vanilla in aroma. Rich and strong. Very smooth mouthfeel. Milk chocolate with roasted coffee and vanilla in taste. Really nice tasting, the drinkability is really on a high level and no sign of the abv here. More on the bitter cocoa side towards the finish.

Bue à la pression. Couleur noir profond. Amande et vanille au nez, qu’on retrouve au palais. Puis finale sur le café avec une légère amertume. Le tout superbement équilibré.

Pours black with a tiny brown head. Aroma is Huge on the chocolate. Also some nice dried dark fruits, lovely vanilla notes, roasted coffee, cocoa and some chocolate fudge. Taste has some nice rich chocolate notes as well. Also some roasted coffee, vanilla, dark dried fruits, cocoa and a bit savory overall.Balance is just spot on. Never gets cloying. Really big and drinkable beer. I understand the hype of this beer.

Oh jeez. Pours pitch black with very little, dark brown oily head. Aroma has soooo much nice, dark chocolate, a nice roast, a slight smoke and some vanilla. The taste is very pleasing with sweet notes of dried plums, chocolate and vanilla. Along follows a nice roasted, dry coffee. If i didn’t know, i would have guessed that this beer contains around 8-9% alcohol. Slight fizzy carbonation, and very full body.

Near chewy body with carbonation that struggles to keep up but is not obviously too low. Rich flavor, even for style. A bit too sweet up until the finish. Lots of dark chocolate and a bit of coffee.
