COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

came across this bottle at Northdown and had no idea of the hype especially from my experience, its a decent brew but nothing more... vanilla, nutty, chocolate and coffee, but lacking balance, thin, a bit too much alcohol present for the abv

2015 BJCP Category: 30A Spice/Herb/Vegetable (base brew: 20C Imperial Stout)

AROMA: Mostly coffee and vanilla; some dark malt. Additives are nice but obscure the base brew. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Deep black, no highlights. Medium dark tan foam. Plenty of lacing. 3/3

FLAVOR: Slightly bitter up front with roasted malt flavor and light coffee. Very sweet throughout the second half. Strong vanilla taste with black cherry on the finish. I don’t get almond or biscotti-like flavors, though. No alcohol presence, thankfully. Very tasty overall, but borders on cloying. 17/20

MOUTHFEEL: Not viscous as expected. More of a medium/full body that’s highly carbonated for the style (which makes it easier to drink). No alcohol heat or burn. 5/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Definitely a delectable beer, though it can get a little cloying. Lack of booziness is impressive. 9/10

TOTAL SCORE: 43/50

Can pour into nonic pint glass from Andover Liquors. Aroma is roasted malts, dark fruit, vanilla, cocoa, almond. Appearance is essentially opaque black--only slightest ruby red/dark brown at bottom/side of glass with light source directly behind. Finger width creamy brown head with good retention and mild lacing. Taste is dark fruits, vanilla, almond, with sweet and bitter contributions from roasted malt, hint of coffee. Palate is full bodied with creamy texture, soft carbonation and lightly bitter turning to sweet fruity finish with some alcohol warmth. Overall, this is one dandy beer with high attributes all around. At first, the sweet was kept pretty reasonable but as it warmed it may have drifted slightly toward the overly sweet zone.

Draft. Pours black with a dark brown head. Aromas of chocolate, alcohol, roasted malts, liquorice, maybe vanilla. Quite sweet flavor along the lines of the aroma - pretty true to the biscotti moniker. Aftertaste of roasted malt and alcohol. A bit of a gimmicky feel, but pretty good stuff.

Pour is a brown black with puffy tan head that dies down. Smell of baking cookie, chocolate, booze, licorice, and more. Taste of strong chocolate, cookies, big and robust caramel and creamy booze, it’s fuckin good

Aroma of biscotti, chocolate, coffee, roast. Pours jet black with a lasting creamy beige / brown head. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter. Starts chocolatey and creamy sweet and finishes with more roasted and mildly bitter coffee. Full bodied, soft carbonation, sticking on the lips like sweets, finishes slightly dry and roasted. Great!

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home on a steamy late spring evening. Appearance is pitch black, moderate consistency, rich off white and slightly tan head. Aroma of cocoa, chocolate, doesn’t smell sweet, smells nice. Taste is nice, chocolately with notes of dark roast coffee and light vanilla. Not too decadent. Very good.

Brown/black, with a brown head. Aroma is marzipan, and sweet toast, it really does smell like biscotti. Taste is the same, but lighter, and much sweeter than I expected, with light, almost fruity carbonation.$3.75 pint can

Pours black with a small dense brown head. Light aromas of biscotti, licorice, dark chocolate and maybe a hint of vanilla. The taste has only light sweetness and a fairly hard roast. Licorice again and dark chocolate. The finish is again pretty roasted and dry/bitter.. Mouthfeel is medium full. The BA version is a whole lot better than this.
