Shall one compare thee to a fair beer, Not even this perfect porter before thou will do thee justice. Thou art more complex, brave and cunning. Thou have changed more than a brew will ever. Thou may be lil’, but thy mind is greater than words can speak and beer will ever taste.

Taps rich coffee sable with a fair tan head. Aroma delivers roast malt, coffee, and barleywine-like fruity tones. Flavor presents roast malt, coffee, woody, fruity, and subtle semi-sweet chocolate notes. Body is firm, fizz is OK. Get a lil’ B in your tummy.

Pours deep sable with a thick and persistent tan head. Aroma is not strong, but presents promising toasty malt, fruity and woody notes. Flavor delivers more than what the aroma promises - molasses, roast malt, slightly charred hops, hints of pear and licorice. And a sneaky alcohol bite. Mouthfeel features firm, viscous body and good fizz. No lil’ beer, a worthy one.

Bottle from Brew Bristol. Appearance: medium brown head, very dark brown colour, almost black. Aroma: dry plums, coffee, vanila, dark chocolate, roast. Taste: sweetness of fruits, then bitterness of coffee and chocolate, amazing! Palate: full bodied, thick, long finish, well balanced, although a bit of alcohol, average carbonation. Overall: Wow! Very drinkable, fantastic beer, love it!

Aromas of chocolate/coffee/tobacco. Didn’t seem 11.5 ABV, alcohol is well masked. Big flavor on this beer.

Draft into a tulip. Deep opaque, black brown. Strong aroma of molasses and espresso beans. Quite bitter, some sweetness. Hints of some spice. Quite upfront alcohol. Quite heavy, very oily mouthfeel. Lots of acidity. Very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours black with a thin beige head. Good lacing. Aromas of dark chocolate, dark fruit, and coffee. Flavors are coffee, dark fruit, vinous tones, black chocolate. molasses and bready notes. Slightly syrupy mouthfeel that coats the tongue. Boozy. Very malty. Nice.

Thy body is black as a starless night, thy head may be lil’ but... oh, whatever... the small brown head sticks around for some time before it ends up as a partially covering film. Inviting and strong aroma of chocolate, dark caramel and other dark roasted malty notes. In the back I get sweet dark dried fruits, leather and liquorice, and some faint vinous hints of alcohol. Delicious and intense flavour of dark chocolate, bitter chocolate, chocolate sauce, roasted malt and dark dried fruits. Some well integrated notes of cognac-like alcohol dwell in the background, along with vanilla and traces of black currants. The taste is moderate sweet, with a fairly heavy bitter, everlasting finish. Full body, oily to creamy texture, soft carbonation. A marvellous brew!
