Shall one compare thee to a fair beer, Not even this perfect porter before thou will do thee justice. Thou art more complex, brave and cunning. Thou have changed more than a brew will ever. Thou may be lil’, but thy mind is greater than words can speak and beer will ever taste.

Draft at Ale Arsenal. Black as hell with a small tan head. Big roasty aroma with loads of molasses, blackberry, and a hint of soy. The flavor is intense. Dark chocolate, molasses, soy sauce, and dark berries. Full as all hell and lightly carbonated. Good but lacks polish a bit.

Aug. 29, 2014. Bottle at Bellwoods Brewery. Dark cherries and chocolate nose. This smells fantastic. Dark cherry chocolate flavour, hints of coffee. Smooth mouthfeel. Quite lovely.

Huge brown head over black body. Beautiful. Rich, powerful aroma with brown bread, toffee, roasted pumpkin, dark nuts... Fantastic. Taste is rich too, although there I find the biggest issue with this very tasty beer, and that’s the carbonation. It’s too prickly, dimming the fullness of the body, dimming the taste and only revealing it’s bitterness in the end. A shame, it’s a great starting beer, and still great to drink, but that small issue lowers the overall score unequally bad. (33cl bottle from Saveur Bière)

Bottle, 355ml. Opaque black with a brownish hue and a frothy to creamy brown head. Dense aroma of dry fruits and alcohol. Robust and heavy, with an oily texture. Rich dark malt character with a heavy alcohol and bitter finish. Not the most drinkable beer but certainly top class.

Bottle, 355ml. A pitch black beer with a small brown head. Aroma is of chocolate (the creamy, milky one), caramel and nuts. Taste is bitter with some carbonation and astringency. It has a milky, smooth character. Rich and warming. Aftertaste reminds a little bit of mint. Slightly alcoholic finish.

Bottle at home. Black pour, tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, licorice, burnt malts and bready yeast. Flavor is slightly alcoholic, bitter burnt malts, loads of coffee and caramel. Thick body, solid bitterness and nice carbonation. Very nice brew.

12oz bottle. Pours black with a generous khaki head. Aromas of chocolate raspberry cake, coffee. Taste is bitter and semi dry. Favors of cake, berries, some twang, medium roast, fruity. Not as good as evil twin yin. But still decent. High boost. Full bodied. Refined and pretty clean. I liked it, just a bit less than the previous beer.

Bottle at SSAN V. Dark brown/almost black pour with brown foam. Aroma is sweet, fruity, chocolaty malt, boozy, very light coffee. Taste is sweet, syrupy, molasses, very light roastiness, pretty fruity actually, caramel. Palate is rich and slick. Too sweet.

Bouteille 330ml. Couleur noire opaque, mousse moka foncée consistante.

"More so than most beers, I can side by side compare this to another. The best part? That "other" beer? Black butte 24! This porter is huge all around. Bitter, sweet, complex. Roasted malts, licorice, loads of chocolate, figgy sweetness, coffee. Maybe a touch more bitter bite than BB, but quite similar. And tasty."
