Shall one compare thee to a fair beer, Not even this perfect porter before thou will do thee justice. Thou art more complex, brave and cunning. Thou have changed more than a brew will ever. Thou may be lil’, but thy mind is greater than words can speak and beer will ever taste.

A black body with a tan head that had good retention but no lacing. Aroma had notes of chocolate malts, leather and alcohol. Flavor was initially sweet and although there was some nice roasted flavors alcohol seemed to dominate the flavor. Nice mouthfeel and a smooth finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle. Pours black with a generous khaki head. Aromas of chocolate raspberry cake, coffee. Taste is bitter and semi dry. Favors of cake, berries, some twang, medium roast, fruity. Not as good as evil twin yin. But still decent. High boost. Full bodied. Refined and pretty clean. I liked it, just a bit less than the previous beer.

Bottle at SSAN V. Dark brown/almost black pour with brown foam. Aroma is sweet, fruity, chocolaty malt, boozy, very light coffee. Taste is sweet, syrupy, molasses, very light roastiness, pretty fruity actually, caramel. Palate is rich and slick. Too sweet.

Bouteille 330ml. Couleur noire opaque, mousse moka foncée consistante.

"More so than most beers, I can side by side compare this to another. The best part? That "other" beer? Black butte 24! This porter is huge all around. Bitter, sweet, complex. Roasted malts, licorice, loads of chocolate, figgy sweetness, coffee. Maybe a touch more bitter bite than BB, but quite similar. And tasty."

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a very seductive mocha head that disappears all to quickly. Aroma of booze, refined sugar, some dark chocolate, coffee. Mouthfeel rich, flavor fairly strong of coffee, mild chocolate, strongly alcoholic finish.

Transfer from BA review on 8-11-13- Poured from bottle into a snifter Appearance – Pours a super thick looking massively dark brown brew that boarders on black. Upon pouring there is only the trace of brown colored foam sitting atop the brew. The foam fades almost instantly leaving little to no lace on the glass. Upon swirling the thickness of the brew can be seen with sticky fingers clinging to the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is sweet, roasted, and malty. There is a strong brown bread smell mixed with lots of caramel and molasses. Mixed with these aromas is a big chocolate smell that has notes of vanilla and a little bit of dark fruit, overall adding to the sweeter and roasted aromas of the brew. A warming alcohol smell accompanies the darker, roasted, and sweeter smells of the brew creating a sweet roasted cocoa aroma overall. Taste – The taste begins with a roasted malt flavor mixed with some flavors of caramel and molasses. A moderately strong and somewhat sweeter chocolate flavor is present upfront as well. A little bit of vanilla soon comes to the tongue adding to the chocolate sweetness. Toward the middle of the taste some of the caramel fades with the chocolate taking on a more dry cocoa like flavor. A big dose of coffee also comes to the tongue more toward the end of the taste intensifying the roasted and darker flavors of the brew. With some oaky booziness also coming to the tongue mixing with the other flavors at the end of the taste a warming dark roasted flavor is left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and more viscous side with only a small amount of carbonation. The thickness and lower carbonation are fantastic for the roasted, coffee, cocoa and boozy flavors of the brew and make for a nice slow sipper. Overall –A rather nice brew overall. It has a sweeter roasted aroma with the taste matching up in the front, but more toward the end it dries out rather nicely creating a nicely roasted flavor to linger on the tongue. A rather nice slow sipper.

Inky black pour. Peanut butter, date syrup, mocha rich nose. Heavy swirls send out bright red fruit lasers. High fruit sugar flavor with pomegranate, date, and green banana. Dripping in milk chocolate. Low patent black flavor is overwhelmed by gently layered, softer malts. Shades of hops are present but hard to distinguish from the saturated tangy fruit flavors. Big and bright throughout; oily palate can get a little washy and a lack of tannic balance for these flavors is unfortunate. There is good composure to this, but the powerful sweetness is ultimately too much for me.

12 fl oz bottle @ home from De Molen. Pitch black color, small brown creamy average lasting good lacing head. Nose is rum and brownie, Aroma is dark chocolate, mild coffee, toast, red wine, soy sauce, alcohol is noticable. Taste light to medium sweetness, heavy bitterness, hint of sourness. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation, long lasting roasty bitter finish. Excellent dessert beer, bit too much alcohol flavor.

Very dark brown color with a dark tan head of 1/2 inch or so with a vigorous pour from a 12 oz bottle. The aroma is dark roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and booze. The taste is dark chocolate, some coffee, deeply roasted malt, some dark dried fruit and a bit too much booze....JUST a bit too much, this is an imperial after all. Quite sweet, but not cloying. This is an excellent beer that bridges the porter/stout boundary quite nicely.

Bottle 33cl, a dark beer with low head and carboination. Nose is intense on dark malt, dark chocolate and plum. Aroma is also very intense and complex, dark coffee, dark malt, sweet caramel, plum, fig, light oxidized, dry grapes, smooth body, alcohol is burning. Very long roasted aftertaste with cherries that were stored in brandy notes. Again a nice beer from this brewery but this one is a bit too alcoholic to be very pleasant.
