A clever woman once said; ’fair is foul and foul is fair’. On that note we threw in a young, unacknowledged hoppy pilsner, gave it a limp, wrinkly flavor and finished it off with an insulting high price that will give you a foul feeling in your mouth. That’s why we name Evil Twin Brewing’s Low Life the Golddigger of Beers.

5.5%ABV. Pilsner. Poured out a slightly cloudy light amber. 12ºSRM. Nose has cream corn, cream of wheat sweetness. Slightly spicy suggesting basil. There is a slight tea like astringency to the nose: floral and yet clean and and dry. Mouthfeel is soapy. There is rounded fullness to the palate with nice toasted malt, graham cracker, caramel and hard candy like sweetness. There is a dry tannin-like finish to the hop bitter. Overall palate is almost light and beery but with a very nice clean finish, then another slight flavor hump of flowery sweetness, like chamomile tea, and some brightness of citrus flowers, then a slide into a two dimensionally sweet finish. one more final tasting note is that there is a nice bitter spicy flavor that is remiscent of mint, but maybe more appropriate to describe it as hyssop where there is minty and bitter together. There is also Thai basil and maybe at the end, fresh cilantro. Ok, I’m almost indefensibly fond of this one...can’t really explain why, but I like it. Kinda like your Low life Uncle that you see once a year at family gatherings who always has something elicit and exciting to share and you love him because his family but also because he’s bad. Goes on Favorites List!

Pint can. Golden pour with pillowy white head. Aroma is clean and lightly happy. The flavor is more sweet and less crisp than I would expect from a pilsner, but it is still a delicious beer.

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration. OleR professed this to be one of the best pilsners he’d tasted, so I quickly took to the Evil Twin stand for a check. :-) Slightly hazy golden body, medium white head. Aroma is grassy Saaz-style hop tones, pale malts and hints of grain and fresh dew. Nice. Taste is fresh noble hops, pale malts and hints of herbs, with a nice and dry, yeasty finish. A very good pils indeed, and in fact I think it just might be the best of its kind to strafe my mouth as well. :-)

Shiny blond head. Hazy yellow colored body. Grassy and fruity hop aroma. Taste is sweet-accented bready malts, yet very fresh. Firm grassy and fruity bitterness. Smooth and well-bodied. Drinks good, very refreshing. [Draft, CBC 2012]

Tap at CBC 2012. Beer in the glass deep golden, nice head. Mild-hoppy aroma. Starts mild, fine hoppy-dry, nice hoppy-flowery notes. Finish still mild, more dry than the beginning. Not bad!

Draught at BrewDog Manchester. Slightly hazy gold with a fluffy white head and lacing. Plenty of fruity hop character above more familiar grainy lager notes. Hop bitter taste with hints of citrus, apricot and berry. This almost feels like an IPA, but there’s enough pils character to separate it. A good one.

12oz bottle, shared by Jay. Bottled 3/22/13. Nice clear golden color. Thin white head, leaves decent lace. Good sweet grainy taste. Light on the bitter, good balance in the taste. Medium body. Great, smooth lighter carbonation. Kind of crisp, with a lightly dry finish. Bready, light pepper, light bit of crisp lightly spicy lightly grassy hop, with some sweet grains overall. Wonderful, gimmick-free pilsner. This rainy spring day, I wasn’t in the mood for IPA, which is rare for me. This pils hit the spot perfectly. Crushable, easy drinking tasty brew.
