A clever woman once said; ’fair is foul and foul is fair’. On that note we threw in a young, unacknowledged hoppy pilsner, gave it a limp, wrinkly flavor and finished it off with an insulting high price that will give you a foul feeling in your mouth. That’s why we name Evil Twin Brewing’s Low Life the Golddigger of Beers.

Bottle at Momofuku Toronto. Initial pour is crystal clear golden with a small white head - turns a bit hazy when the rest is poured, but still attractive. Clean aroma and flavour of biscuit and breadcrust malts and lemony hops. Bit of cut grass and lemon balm in the finish. Simple and good.

Can from Beaumont Market in Portland, OR. Colour...deep gold with s frothy white head. Nose...lightly hoppy, slightly husky and somewhat biscuit like. Palate...slightly sweet with plenty of grassy notes, more hops than I’m accustomed to when it comes to pilsener (not that that is bad) and a bit of dryness. Some field dust and citrus pith hits the mid palate, and the hops come back fairly strong on the finish.

Behind Evil Twin is brewer Jeppe Bjergsø the brother of Mikkel Bjergsø, best known as Mikkeller. Both brothers have obviously a great love for hops for the Low Life is much more hoppy than the expected type correctness for a lager. Yet it is a pleasant acquaintance, for behind the first gentle citrus hoppy tasting hides a gentle light caramel malt which quickly is replaced by a little more fruity hops flavor of exotic fruit (passion fruit, grapefruit and peach). Very soft carbonation keeps the taste buds busy for a long time with good gentle malt shades and tasty hops. Perhaps tangent to the more pale ale than lager, but delicious is it at least.

Evil Twin Low Life has a very thick, off-white head, a hazy (powdery sediment) apricot-orange-gold appearance, some bubble streams, and heavy lacing left behind. The aroma is of tropical fruity hops and sweetness, and the flavor is of sweet, white bread, pale malt, tropical fruit pulp, and fairly strong hop bitterness at the end of the sip. Mouthfeel is medium and slick, and Evil Twin Low Life finishes mostly dry and mellow. RJT

Tap at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Pours hazy gold with a fleeting, white foam head. Biscuity malt nose with light citrus notes. Medium sweet flavor, a touch sugary, with further biscuits and light alcohol. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet, semi-clean finish with more pale, biscuity malts, light floral notes, some grain. It’s pretty nice, but just a bit too sweet.

Craft Clerkenwell. Hazy gold beer, little white head. Palate is light and dry. Fresh minerally carbonation. A modicum of raw grain. Fair bit minerally fresh orange hop. Finishes crisp and dry. More of an APA perhaps but good nontheless.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours hazy gold with 4 fingers of creamy off-white head. Aroma of fresh light pitted fruit and citrus. Med minus body. Mild carb. Flavor is simply fresh fruit. Finishes mildly bitter. Quite delicious. Fruity enough to be an ale.
