2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Poured from a 12oz bottle into La Chouffe tulip glass. 169:14 is printed at the bottom of the neck of the bottle so I assume that bottle date is the 169th date of 2014 which happens to be 18 June 2014. It poured a nice orangey gold colour with less than one finger head which receded quite quickly leaving some lace on the glass. Smell was of sweet malts with some light citrus and orange coming through. Taste though… Sweet. Too sweet. Like lightly carbonated orange cordial, some honey and maybe bubblegum. One thing going for it is that even at 13%, you don’t notice the alcohol at all. Some of the hoppiness does creep through the sweetness at times but not much. Feels sticky, full bodied and lightly carbonated. Overall though, I’m thinking that now it is around 9 months from date of bottling, maybe some of the hoppiness was lost? But this was way too overly sweet for me. At first I thought that maybe I could enjoy half a bottle every so often, but the more and longer I think about it, I really couldn’t. Way too sweet.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle. Date indicates it is about a year old. Pours light amber, very little white head, some spotty lacing. Aroma is warm hop, malt, honey, slightly boozy. Flavor is a lot less hoppy than you’d expect: lots of honey, sweetness, just enough hop at the end to stop the sweetness overload. Lingering bitterness. Alcohol is very well hidden, but I can feel it, if not taste it, and this beer is pretttty sweet.
For first try from EvilTwin, and I’m not really disappointed, but not blown away.

Pours a burnt amber. Malty on the nose, roasty and hay. Heavy bitterness with a strange finish. Oily body. Intense in flavor but not perfectly balanced.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Saveur-Biere.com - Color: hazy blond beer with small carbonation and small white foam. Smell: hoppy domination and grassy with floral notes. Less expressive than the Simcoe version, and better apprehension. Taste: good balance with high hoppy attack. Very nice taste of floral and grassy notes. Notes of pineapple and peach. Aftertaste: sweet wet bitterness and to strong alcohol finish !

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Golden pour. Strong aroma of sweet pine and malt. Taste is explosive indeed, very sweet and malty, with peach, caramel, sugar, pine and biscuit. Has an alcohol punch in the finish. Decent iipa, if it was fruitier it could have been great.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours slightly hazy deep gold with one finger of medium ivory head, good retention and moderate lacing. (3/5) Nose is caramel malt, tropical fruit, pine, citrus. (7/10) Taste is moderately strong sweet, strong bitter. (7/10) Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, slick slightly syrupy and warming finish. (4/5)
A big DIPA with a well-integrated double digit ABV that comes through as a pleasant boozy warmth in the finish. It’s definitely more sweet than I would prefer, but not overwhelmingly so - I’d prefer more hop-forwardness. Good without being great. (15/20)

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Little hazy, orange amber, lasting small head. Aroma is orange, tropical fruit, pine, big hop. Nice. Very sweet to balance out any bitterness. Slick, thick and chewy. Bit of alcohol warmth. I wonder what some time will do.
