COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English: This is a true story about a dedicated belgian brother who spent all his hard earned money on a all inclusive Barbados vacation to pursue a life long dream – brew an old fashion dark Belgian infused with local muscovado sugar aka Barbados sugar – luckily the outcome is a first class candy coated, full-bodied and escapist beer – the best he ever made. Halleluja.

500mL bottle, no date for $12.99 at Olive Tree Market in OB. Clear dark reddish brown with a small beige head, fading to a ring rather quickly. Belgian yeast and ripe dark fruit (figs mainly) and molasses brown sugar notes up front in the nose--pretty malty and sweet. Light toasty malts are also present. The flavor adds some decaying leaves, and with it, a very slight tinge of something tangy. Still, quite sweet. The alcohol, though not all that strong, does help drying the beer out a bit, as well as some light roast char that doesn’t become apparent until the semi-dry finish. Bitterness peaked at a 2-3. Low carbonation with a big full body. This wasn’t too bad, but for the price, it sure was. I’d give it a 3 if the price factored in my rating, but this time, it won’t.

Bottle. Cloudy dark brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, oranges, banana, plums. Taste is sweet, brown sugar, raisin, banana with a peachy and spicy yeast finish. Pretty sweet stuff, though the taste has a nice complexity which makes this an enjoyable beer. For sharing I might add.

Another stellar beer from this place. I loved the blend of candy sugar, bread, caramel and spice. This one really sat well with me. I love Belgian Strongs.

Rich, deep, mahogany colored pour. Ruby highlights. No head, no lacing. Looks flat, but there is the occasional bubble rising. Smells like caramelized sugar, raisins, malt. Taste is sweet, slight smokiness, sugary. Vanilla. Sweet syrupy mouthfeel, but not to syrupy. Not too bad. I like it, but would like it better if it was colder. Nice winter warmer.

On tap at the Thirsty Monk in Asheville. Pours medium to dark clear brown with a slightly reddish tint and a relatively small beige head. Nose is complex sugars, wood, and rum. Some dark fruits and cherry skins. Flattish palate, and the sugars just taste, well, sweet at the end of the day.

Draught. Man I don’t even know what to say about this. Poured dark, raisin rum aroma, same taste with molasses etc. Good but maybe too syrupy.
