3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a very dark brown, with a brown head.
Very hoppy, heavily toasted aroma, spruce, chocolate, coffee beans, grapefruit, smoke, ashes, tobacco, passion fruit.
Off-dry, full bodied, high bitterness, balanced CO2.
Very hoppy, bitter taste, roasted malt, chocolate, spruce, pine resin, tobacco, coffee, passion fruit, ashes, grapefruit peerl, smoke.
As with the light one, this is also off balance in terms of hops vs body, but works better. The roasted malts make up a better counterweight, providing better balance.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Wow, despite a Best Before 2014 on the label, this beer is still very good. Surprisingly, the hop character is still full fledged. Appearance was amazing with a huge thick creamy tan slow to settle head. Iím further impressed that theyíve been able to tweak it so that the hops blend so well with the roast and dark malt qualities. Very easy drinking brew.

"Black IPA, orange peel, pine/spruce and roasted malts up front and center. The aroma is fan freakin tastic, and the flavor is not far behind. Done really well, this is what I want in a black ipa. dry. piney, hoppy, roasted, chocolatey goodness."

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown colored pour. Huge tan head that takes up 2/3 of the glass. Some lacing when it eventually dies down. Huge hoppy aroma. Some dark malt, roast, coffee and chocolate notes. Chocolaty taste with some hop notes. Some coffee, citrus. Bitter finish.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(bottle - 500 ml) Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Hoppy aroma with some light malt. Flavor is overly bitter without much malt to compliment it. Overly carbonated and just kind of plain.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Extremely lively pour, with an effervescent brown head dominating a dark brown body. Aroma is very hoppy, sweet tropical fruits and light pine. Intense hop character on the palate, papaya sweetness, mango skins, pine; the hops pretty much steal the show, completely dominating the toffee-ish dark malts. Long and extremely bitter finish.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Oddly disappointing for me. Black pour. Mildly hoppy nose. Flavors are quite intriguing at first, but the finish really becomes unbalanced after a few sips--very astringent and burnt finish.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle pour opaque black with huge foaming tan head. Nose sweet malt, toffee, slight biscuit and dank hop. Big bitter bite up front. Some roasted flavor and then some minimal sweet malt. Astringent bitter finish. As it warms, some of the astringency calms down and flavors begin to come through.
