12 oz. bottle at APEX, pours black with a humungous tan head. Aroma of bourbon barrels, vanilla, light chocolate and maybe some woody tartness. Flavour is a bourbon bomb, with lots of barrels, vanilla and booze. Unfortunately, something during the aging creating an intensely high carbonation (especially for an impy. stout), whereas the base beer is very moderately carbonated. This one kills some of the complexity and makes this anything but an easy drinking one. Decent, but too many flaws.

Aroma is malts, fruit and an undercurrent of sweetness. The flavor is fruit/berries, malts, a hint of sourness and a mildly tart finish.

ClubGonzo (4230) - Bergen, NORWAY - JUN 22, 2012
Bottle from Ølbutikken. Pours a pitch black body with the characteristic over-sized, foamy "De Molen-style" beige head retention. Sour-ish grainy malt tones at first, then whisky, leather, licorice and hints of booze and something vaguely reminiscent of salmiac. A bit peculiar, and not at all the kind of Bourbon BA aromas I’ve come to recognize (and love) so easily. The first thing that hits me is what appears to be a massive over-carbonation: the brew is fizzy, which, coupled with the alcohol, creates a harsh cauldron of stingy flavors in my mouth for a while. When it finally dies down, I’m left with licorice and whisky for the most, with some hints of leather and strange salt-sour-like tones in the back. The über-fizzy palate subsides throughout the glass, despite the head which vanished rather quickly. Something has gone a bit wrong here, methinks.

Habanero (2749) - Tranbjerg, DENMARK - JUN 9, 2012
Bottled. Pours black with a huge brown head with fair lacing. Nose of roasted malts, mild coffee and chocolate. Sweet flavor with again coffee, roasted malts and licorice along with dark fruit + bourbon notes. Medium to full bodied, oily texture and flat to soft carbonation. Ends up dry with a little malt bitterness. Again an excelllent brew from Jeppe.

Bottle. Oh god this thing was way off. I was able to pour maybe .5oz of liquid and the rest was foam in a huge glass. I have had this sitting in my fridge for a few days, so temperature wasn’t an issue. Aroma of bourbon, soy, alcohol, and vanilla. Flavor was similar, lots of soy. Carbonation bursts all over my mouth. Drain pour unfortunately.

Bottle. Pours near black with a beige head. Light roasted malty aroma with some bourbon-like sweetness. The flavor has roasted and burnt malts, coffee, and lighter bourbon. Pretty good.

Bottle @ home, slight geuser. Pours black with a huge fluffy light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, oak, dark fruit, hints of bourbon. Taste is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, raisins and plums, oak, hints of bourbon. Thin to medium body, overly high and abit aggressive carbonation. I prefer the original to this. 190512

Bottle at a tasting at James’ place. Pours a deep black with a medium to large dense tan head. Big bourbon, loads of roast, cocoa and chocolate. Medium to thick body, cocoa and roast, coffee and chocolate. Lots of cocoa, roast and bourbon. Lovely.
