Fra fat på Cardinal: soft er stikkordet her, en myk munnfølelse med vanilje, litt frukt og Minde Moccabønner i lange baner. Flott skum. Et herlig øl hvor det høye vitamininnholdet er skjult i all velsmaken.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Everything you want in an imperial stout...plus vanilla! So good! Opaque and dark as night; enough tan head for structural integrity....tons of roasted, dark malt notes...coffee...as it warms it displays an even more expansive aroma...this is killer!

3.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
(From notes 10 Oct, 2012) Bottle. Pitch black beer, beige foam that diminishes quickly. Aroma is very inviting; vanilla (obviously), caramel, coffee, chocolate. Overall a very sweet aroma. The taste is a harsh bitter & sweet, exacerbated by the fizzy carbonation. Aftertaste is bitter chocolate.
I had high expectations for this one. Imperial vanilla stout sounds like it would be right up my alley. However, it quickly became apparent that my expectations were incorrect from the start. Perhaps the vanilla should come from e.g. a bourbon barrel. This felt like a bad chocolate stout, one that smells good but is bland otherwise, leaving a very fake impression. The aroma led me to believe this would be great, but turned out that was not the case. A nice "vanillalicious" or chocolate aroma does not mean the beer is, overall, like that. Using a fairly recently reviewed example I would compare this to Southern Tier’s Mokah, which had a rich aroma of chocolate and the flavors and mouthfeel to back it up. In Soft Dookie, the aroma seemed to be misaligned with the flavor and other factors.
Perhaps I should try this one again sometime. It’s not bad, just disappointing.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Shared with RasmusOtt. Newer label. Crazy chocolate/whipped creamy head and black beer. Aroma of vanilla and chocolate. For once sweet milk chocolate works well in the taste. Very well! Vanilla is very present, and it’s well balanced by some roasted malts. Deliciously soft and creamy beer!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Growler - RBAG. From my commemorative RBAG Glass. Pours opaque black; thick tan head, spotty lacing. Nose is MASSIVE vanilla, big sweet mocha, marshmallow, and a hint of licorice. Dig the nose on this, despite the sweetness. Flavours of toasty vanilla and sweet mocha. Lots of depth, and just enough roasty bitterness to keep it in balance. For a big, sweet, Imperial Stout that I could easily have written off as "messy" this one was a real surprise. Delicious!

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle pours thick black with firm brown head. Aroma mostly roast. very well balanced taste with malts, chocolate, roast and a touch of vanilla. Finish prolonged roast but not overbearing. Thick creamy palate, perfect for the style. Very good straight-ahead imperial stout.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Black body tawny edges. Aromas of vanilla and roast. Flavors don’t mix well. Bottle is a year old so maybe bad cellar conditioning. Taste starts sweet vanilla then goes to roasted grain with a band aide finish. Wish I didn’t hold onto the bottle so long.

Drinking this now. Full-on standard heavy Imperial Stout, great for standing outside on this cold night... and getting me psychologically prepared for winter, I guess. Slippery heaviness on the mouth, vanilla and roasted stout on the nose, with this much vanilla you’d think it could turn out too sweet, but the finish definitely has bitterness. I think this was very well balanced. I plan on buying this again and sharing, the vanilla makes it a a good "starter" impy.
