Bottle. Creamy lightbrown excellent fully lasting head. Black colour. Heavy malty and moderate hoppy aroma. Tons of chocolate and vanilla. Moderate bitter fantastic flavor. Strong vanilla notes overpowering some roast. Excellent. Long delicate finish. Creamy palate. World class and what an Imp. Stout should be.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Keg at BrewDog Edinburgh. Black with a smallish brown head. Nose is slightly smoky, with lots of coffee and some chocolate. Taste is similar, but with a lovely smooth vanilla note that lightens the palate. Finish is very slightly boozy, but followed by a gorgeous cocoa/dark chocolate bitterness. A really well-balanced sipping beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 A: Deep black body. Large light brown head. Good staying power. Healthy sheets of khaki lacing left on the glass.
S: Mild, mellow sweet malts. Coffee, chocolate, and vanilla.
T: Ramped up version of the nose. Sweet and decadent (but not syrupy). Vanilla is certainly present, but I also get a lot of chocolate and coffee.
M: Smooth and creamy. A bit thin in the finish however.
O: Overall a nice imperial stout. Some flaws, but an enjoyable beverage nonetheless as the flavor carries the day.

Draft. For the record, I like any beer that makes a poop joke. Pours near black with a beige head. Roasted malty aroma, with coffee and dark fruits. The flavor has roasted malts, molasses, vanilla, fudge, coffee, floral hops, and some light dark fruits. Nice.

[tap at the BrewDog Bar, Edinburgh] Black with a thin tan head. Aromas of bitter coffee, roasted malts and a little vanilla. Bitter astringency on the palate, with a mocha flavour right down the middle. On the finish, some alcohol warmth, but I really wouldn’t guess at an abv over 10%. Love the aftertaste of roasted coffee and vanilla

28 April 2011, tap. black, looks thin, frothy brown head. great nose! great mix of espresso (soft) and mocha with a twinge of black pepper. med/thin body and slightly fizzy. this is a really rich, almost fake, milk chocolate taste w/ some burnt chocolate notes akin to a stout. pretty darn good!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
16.9 oz bottle from Capone’s, Pours turbid onyx with 3-finger brown head. Nose is choc malt, vanilla, German chocolate cake. Tastes malty, on the sweet side, not a lot of hops, with figgy fruit, blackberry and port notes, a rich palate. This beer is thick and rich and the 10% ABV is well hidden. It comes off like a 33/33/33/ port wine/dry stout/dry blackberry/plum wine, and stays complex and dense on the palate. Overall, after warming, comes off like a younger brother of a 50/50 medley of Southern Tier Oat and the German chocolate cake one, whose name I sadly forget right now.
