English: This stout looks like soft dookie and some will say it smells and tastes like it too. If you like a thick, creamy and utterly vanillalicious stout you’ll like this one. If you don’t, get yourself something else instead.

Poured pitch black with no head from the bomber. Smells of a soft combination of chocolate, vanilla, and anise over smoke and malts. The taste is of chocolate and vanilla with some dark fruits, ridden out with some malts. So smooth over the palate! Almost a pleasant creamy feeling, thanks to the vanilla finish.

500mL bottle, pours black with a light brown head. Aroma is chalky, with roasted malt and salt. Flavour is unusually salty (?!), with secondary traits of roasted malt and some vanilla. The salt kills it for me. Surprisingly subpar.

Abgangs durchaus schmeichelnd bitterschokoladig. Langer, starker Alkoholnachhall, der aber verzeihlich ist. Kleine Patzer - aber noch recht gut gelungen.Test vom 21.11.2010, Gebinde: Glasflasche

Strykzone (6176) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - SEP 11, 2011
Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. Very dark and opaque. This has a big tan head and looks nice. A big nose of cocoa and anise. First sip is quite bitter and there are more hops than expected. Chocolate is dark and brings more bitterness. A key theme is that bitterness and it is almost overpowering. Alcohol is well hidden. I am not a fan of this one but it has lots going on.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha rim recedes to hug rim leaving spot lacing. Dark pit fruit aromas. Chocolate and licorices upfront turning to a sweet thick caramel middle and a lasting dry vanilla and chocolate shake finish.

The aroma is a bit smoky and burnt with elements of dark roasted malt, slightly burnt coffee, licorice, chocolate and vanilla. Heavily roasted malt and vanilla is especially noticeable in the taste, which also has a nice hops bitter aroma. I find the taste quite porter-like. A nice beer!

on draft from the thirsty monk. this 10.4% imperial stout was something else. the deScription is unique in its own right. black pour with nice lasting head. now dont hate on this but the first scent and taste to me was just like a fresh cigar...which in reading further could be a woody type texture and flavor. but for me it was all cigar...other than that it was thick creamy and vanillaiscious. not something you drink every day but it is one to take your time with and enjoy. the burnt malts masked with the woodiness could be why i thought it was a cigar aroma.

Draft from Thristy Monk in Asheville. Pours black with a huge tan head. Wood and vanilla strong on the nose, as well as bitter chocolate. Very dark fruits hidden underneath as well. Taste is more wonderful bitter chocolate, vanilla, and wood. Full, rich palate. Yum.

Bottle, 50cl - Dark brown beer with a large beige brown disappearing head. Aroma is malty with notes of chocolate, vanilla, cherries, oats, leather and nuts. Flavor is malty with notes of of dark chocolate, espresso, cookie dough, earthy hops and lots of oaky vanilla. Very full beer with a smooth creamy aftertaste.
