Fritz123 (783) - Boca Raton, Florida, USA - MAR 24, 2014
Bottle from Luekens in Clearwater, FL. Poured into a pint glass. Jet black, oily pour with a very thin short-lived mocha head. No lacing. Powerful aroma of roasted malts, milk chocolate, cocoa nibs, vanilla, peat. The taste was also bold with cocoa nibs, vanilla, dough, peat, roasted goodness, and anise. Creamy mouth with a very full body. Finish is slightly sweet like a chocolate morsel. Virtually no carbonation. It was a very old bottle (not sure what year) so I don’t know if that was on design or due to some long cellaring.

wow, where to start with this one? pours dark amber with no head. nose is inviting with faint chocolate, coffee, and licorice. taste begins with sourness that muddles everything else. light barf on finish. body is light watery and weird. at least it smelled good.

This was a nice beer with a good aroma, good dark color, small head, a nice mouth-feel, modestly complex and malty with a bit of sweetness. This beer would have been simply killer if it would have been barrel aged in bourbon barrels for a year. Alas, the Europeans are very slow to catch on and it may be a decade or never for them to understand that barrel aging makes better beer. That’s why the brewers in the USA are the best. They don’t stop with "good enough" because capitalism demands excellence or you go out of business. Europeans due to their socialistic ways will always brew decent beer but it will never compare with the innovation we have here in the USA.
