mcberko (6333) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 5, 2013
Bottle at Sour & Bitter #2, pours a deep dark amber with a tiny beige / tan head. Aroma of deep dark fruits, subdued red wine barrels, caramel, and a bit of residual sugar. Flavour of perfume, red wine barrels, caramel, and some residual sugars. There is a bit of sweetness, but also a pronounced dryness. The barrels are used quite well, offering a dry vinous quality to it. Not the most complex or elegant, but enjoyable for what it is. Solid stuff.

11.2oz bottle. Dark brown color. Thin off-white head. Couple bits of lace. Very big dark fruity notes, lots of fig, light vanilla, some caramel malt. Moderate sweet taste, but hides the alcohol much better than the malaga hvedegoop I just tasted. Bigger body. Smooth, slick, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Nice raisins, good barrelly light vanilla notes. Pretty tasty, rich, nice complex barleywine. Big sweetness doesn’t bother me here. Awesome dates, dark fruits, raisin aromas, hints of chocolate.
