COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: made for "The Trappist" in Oakland, CA.
The 8% ABV on the label is a misprint.

Bottle. Murky, dark brown with a tall, fluffy tan head. Extremely hoppy and citrusy aroma with light caramel and chocolate malt underneath. Soft earthiness as well. Taste is big citrus fruit, spicy hops, caramel, chocolate malt, toasted malt, light earthiness and soft pine. Body is medium with a surprisingly soft carbonation but a strong, lingering hop bitterness throughout. Ends with more big citrus notes, earthy hops and spicy hops, chocolate malt, toasted caramel and light grains.

A - Served a cloudy brown color with a finger-plus of frothy tannish head atop. The head fades down slowly revealing lots of lace in the process. S - Aroma is a mix of sweet, light toasted caramel malts and some sharp coffee and citrus elements jumping out. T - Starts off with a kick of espresso flavor that starts to mellow out a bit right away. There is a nice balance provided by the sweet lightly toasted caramel malts. Through the middle, the malt flavor gets a bit richer and deeper with some citrus hops coming through. The finish is a mix of sweetness and some coffee flavor and bitterness that linger. M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth and just a bit creamy as well. D - Very drinkable. The balance here is quite nice and it is a very interesting take on the brown ale style. The coffee and hops really worked well and felt really incorporated into the beer.

On tap at the trappist. Smells like breakfast. Bacon maple syrup and pancakes. Tastes like beer. Paired nicely with pickled green tomatoes and habanero jerky. Grass fed of course.

Half a liter bottle that pours a muddy brown topped with a very fine cappochino coloured head. When uncapped it blasts nice hoppy notes away - a dream to create expectations. In the glass the nose still has the hoppy profile, but here you also gett some nice roastyness from coffee and some chocolatish sweetness. Finaly there is something that reminds me og corianter seeds. The taste is rather low key and not that explosive as the aroma. After a sec though it starts crowing and you really get the coffee notes from the espresso beans. Its bitter but at the same time mild with a sweet edge. The mouthfeel is medium with a creamy touch leading to a long dry finish with the bitterness from the espresso up front. Nice beer that does the job. Very drinkable without beeing too much
