3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from the Anderson’s. Pours a murky brown with some bits of yeast floating around. Muted floral notes on the nose. Nice maltiness balanced with some definite hop flavor but without bitterness. This one hides its double digit alcohol very well. nice beer to savor after a long day.

12 fl. oz. bottle @ home from De Molen. Body is hazy amber, Head is small, off-white, creamy, average lasting, good lacing. Nose is red fruits, Aroma is grapefruit, licorice, pine resin, roasted malt, yeasty, later moderated coal, ash and smoke, then strong hoppy. Taste light sweetness, heavy hoppy roasty bitterness, whiff of salty. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Finish is long lasting bitter, strong hoppy, moderated roasty. Not too easy to drink but quite refreshing, nice variable play of hoppy and roasty flavor, great dessert IPA.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from bottle into a snifter
Appearance – The beer pours golden amber color with a two finger head formed upon pouring. The head has a lighter level of retention, fading over about a one minute time period to leave a decent level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is biggest of a bready malt smell mixed with some more dank herbal and earthy hop smells. Along with these smells comes some other hop aromas of a grapefruit nature as well as a little bit of a floral hop smell. A rather decent sum of a boozy aroma is there as well giving an overall slightly more warming smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a strong bready flavor mixed with a good showing of an grapefruit and earthy hop right from the start. There is also a good showing of a caramel malt right from the start, which as the taste advances is joined by some lighter and tropical fruit tastes, although these remain relatively light throughout the taste. The earthy hop increases in intensity and is joined by some flavors of an herbal and floral hop taste more toward the end bringing a bit of dank, greenness to the tongue. Toward the end a booziness really starts showing up strong and mixes with the malty and hopped taste to leave somewhat off (but not too off), rather warming and dank hopped taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. Both are rather fitting for the style, although a little too much for the dank tastes of the brew, with a slightly thinner body possibly having been better for the “greener” flavors of the brew.
Overall – A decent double, but a little too boozy and dank for my taste. Just alright and for the larger price tag, really not worth it overall.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(bottle - 12 oz) Hazy orange with a puffy head. Lightly sweet aroma with a good amount of citrus and floral notes and a slight vegetal undertone. Bitingly bitter and spicy hops at the start that basically go all the way through the flavor. Completely overpowers everything.

3oz sample at Expo Cerveza Mexico 2014. Orange/amber. Deep floral aroma with subtle pine and caramel hints with light grapefruit and citrus undertones. Medium bodied. Heavy bitterness with low sweetness and a strong alcohol finish. Robust and complex, not the most drinkable of IPAs, but magnificent.
