Bottle. A murky orange color with a laced white head. A caramel malty aroma with some pine and fresh hops. Sweet with a rich pine tar finish.

Alengrin (2939) - BELGIUM - APR 30, 2015
UPDATED: MAY 5, 2015 Evil Twin’s renowned DIPA, with egg-white, dense and moussy, frothy, thickly lacing head and clear orangey amber colour with vivid fizz. Refreshing aroma of acacia honey, nettles, fresh orange peel, pine resin, dry white wine, pink grapefruit, whisky, mandarin liqueur, freshly grated ginger, young Parmigiano cheese, chicken soup, a complete florist shop but without the roses (I’m thinking tulips, sunflowers, Shasta daisies...), ripe pear, white pepper. Crisp onset of a brief but vivid, almost exotic and sensual fruitiness, lots of mango and papaja, strawberry and pineapple, relatively soft carbonation, salty ’seaweed’ accent, smooth and supple body, with a lean, nutty and toasted maltiness of enough ’thickness’ to support a hop bitterness showing up early and lasting for a very long time, resinous, subduedly citrussy, spicy and floral at the same time but very salty as well; in all very drying and appetizing, cleverly combined with lingering malt sweetishness and an equally sweetish, very warming, single malt-like alcohol presence; bitter flavour lasts very long which is to be expected from this style, but so does the saltiness on the sides of the tongue, and that bothers me a whole lot more. This has the crispness, boldness and ’abrasiveness’ of any American DIPA, balanced with a sufficient amount of toasted malts and thus remaining elegant and inviting. Made me curious about its Yin counterpart as well. The only thing bothering me a bit in this one is the persisting saltiness, an experience I had in many DIPAs except for the best examples. In this beer there is just too much of it, in my humble opinion.

Butelka 12 fl.oz. Specjalnie by ocenic nabyłem drugą butelkę, potwierdziło pierwsze zauroczenie.

Old rating. Had it solo and with yin. Solid big DIPA. Big resinous and citrus hops. Bitter and sweet medium body. Fairly malty as they go. Liked combining it with the imperially stout.

12 oz. bottle form Wilbur’s. Appearance: finger slightly off-white head, golden color, clear, good lacing. Aroma: grass, resin, citrus, heavy caramel, decent floral. Palate: medium-full body, average carbonation, sticky texture, alcohol warming on back. Taste: sweet caramel into big grassy hops bitterness with plenty of floral and light citrus characteristic as well, finishes with a floral dryness. Overall, very nice, like the balance a lot, taste is wonderful. Very good beer.

Clear brilliant copper with a thin sticky white head. It pours out with quite a bit of floaties, so I left it a moment and they settled and I just kinda let it be. Lovely juicy orange citrus bitterness with some papaya and kiwi and floral resin bitterness. Mellow flavor with a earthy, sweet orange citrus bitterness, with some earthy tropical juiciness, and a earthy bitterness thats a bit resiny and twangy. Lots of orange rind with a mellow sweetness to back it up. Big chewy caramalty backbone.

Dark golden to copper color. Generous piney and caramel aroma. Taste is amazing with solid malt profile that display strong notes of caramel and slight notes of honey and bitter cocoa on the palate. This balances quite well the strong hops profile (that is still very present) that display piney, spruce and herbal notes. Kind of an earthiness too here. The ABV is well hidden here. Although this beer is made to be mixed with a stout, it’s quite an outstanding IPA per se and deserve to be enjoyed on its own.

Pours a clear copper color with thin white head. Nose is sweet, honey and fruits. Tomas are hugely pine, toasted malts, honey, spice. Low carbonation, oily texture. Long (very) bitter and piney finish. Great beer experience! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
