COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial India Black Stout. This is a complete RTD Black and Tan. Not just any Black and Tan but the one where we flawlessly mixed a flippant good Imperial IPA with a profoundly evil Imperial Stout and sustained sweet beer balance.

Bottles from Brewdog Bar, Sheffield. Poured the beers 50:50 together. It is opaque black with a foamy eggshell head. Aroma of pine resin and grass, followed by chocolate, caramel and roasted coffee. Taste is roasted malts with bitter aftertaste. Quite prickly carbonation with a good medium body and some oil. I think I prefer the Yang alone.

Sampled at Northgate Tasting. This tends more towards the dark end of the Black IPA spectrum. 11% though? Can’t tell.

Location: 50/50 mix of the 12 oz bottles from Superstar - Huntington, 10/19/14

Aroma: The aroma is roasted malt and some juicy hop, but the roast come through more
Appearance: Pours much like Yin, dark brown-black, with a small light brown head and spotty lace
Flavor: The flavor is sweeter than Yin, a little fruity, some dry roast, and a clean, hoppy finish
Palate: The body is medium-plus, smooth and creamy, very easy drinking considering the ABV
Overall Impression: I couldn’t resit, the bottles want you to do it, it seemed like most of the rates on here are from mixing, and I’m clearly easily susceptible to (imagined) peer pressure. Plus, I needed something to do, as there are only 3 games on in the 4:00 block today. This makes for a nice mix. Somehow the mix is sweeter than either of the beers. I can’t explain that, but I swear its true. The Double IPA is a little too sweet, but the Imperial Stout is pretty dry, and thus, I like the Black & Tan even more so than the Black or the Tan separately, even though both are very good on their own.

Bottle into a glass. Pours a deep, inky brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is dirt diapers...not infection style....just way muddled to the point of being disgusting. Taste is is roasty, light bitterness, big bitterness...big unbalanced mess overall. Astringent, vegetal...not great...

Bottle. Dark black pour, lasting 1/4 inch head and an aroma of earthy dark malt and slightly peppery hops (very similar to the aroma of your above average Black IPA). Flavor is chocolate malt, creamy lactose and good and hoppy on the finish. Solid black IPA, picture a higher alcohol version of Stone Sublimely Self Righteous.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter blackest brown with a light beige head. Aroma is hops first and roasted sweet malt second. Flavor flows wonderfully with these combined brews. Have had several times from separate bottles but packaged as one is a stroke of perfection. The sweetness of the stout is prominent but doesn’t over shadow the imperial IPA. Great brew!

"The single releases of Yin & Yang encouraged you to drink them solo, and combine the last little bit, which we did. Apparently, they decided to just do it themselves and released this ridiculously huge black and tan as it’s own beer. Yin and Yang is roasty, super sweet and hoppy all a tthe sa,e time. Covers up the alcohol very well for 11% despite it’s thickness. A nice way to finish off the night. Better than the IIPA, not as good as the stout was solo, IMO."

See other peoples description. Just here to get a buzz... no elderberry to speak of when combined :-)

(50/50 blend from bottles) Brown pour with a fluffy head. Sweet aroma with a lot of smoke and floral hops. I was prepared for incredibly bitter considering how bitter they were individually but it was actually rather smooth. Sweet and smokey with a light chocolate hint at the end and a bitter aftertaste.
