3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle (12oz $5) 10% ABV. Nearly black with one finger tan head. Looks like a stout. Aroma was mostly roasted malts. Flavor was also roasty. The IPA part made it seem a little thinned and a bit bitter in the finish.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
355ml bottle enjoyed @ home. Pours black with a frothy off-white head. Aroma is coffee, citrus, chocolate malt and roasted malt. Flavour is roasted and slighty bitter. Body is medium, texture is on the thin side, average carbonation. Finish is ashy, roasted and resinous.

3.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This self mixed (50:50) version lost a bit of carbonation, so it seems a bit lifeless. The color is black, brown and white foam from both beers. The smell is not very special, but surprisingly, the imperial IPA actually is not dominated by its stouty counterpart. This beer is impressively balanced. The aftertaste is slightly edited with the bitterness and sweetness, which doesn’t fit perfectly, but the rest of the beer is awesome.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Black & Tan from 1/3 of a bottle of Yin and Yang each. Beautiful black color with nice stable beige head, some white parts in the head as well. Pine hops, chocolate, caramel, liquorice, even nutty now, it always switches between the two components. Taste is rich and complex, of cocolate malts, toffee, vanilla, everything of the two individual beers mixed together, and boy, do they fit! A warming bitter finish. Fantastic. I wouldn?t have expected that I like the mix so much better than the individual ones.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
bottle. rather thick black with one finger head. huge beer with huge flavors. strong chocolate/coffee malt base, doesn’t seem any less malty than a full on stout. huge hops with citrus quite a bit of bitterness. moderate booze, ass kicker of a beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz Bottle in Seattle. Rich brown pour. Pretty much what you would expect with a nice blend of heavy stout and imperial IPA. Plenty of heavy malt and roasty alcohol, but also balanced with nice rich hops. A bit chalky overall, with bitter chocolate. Nose is fairly fresh. Works as a Black IPA or as a nice Black and Tan. But still not quite my ideal.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours rich, warm sable with a thick and rather persistent tan head. Couldn’t look better! Aroma has chocolate, roast coffee, hoppy, and nutty notes. Flavor has the same notes but more of coffee and hops, plus roast malt and a hint of caramel. Hoppy bitterness provides a nice undertone. Firm, smooth texture has some good fizz. A splendid marriage of IPA and stout, to bring balance to your life. And beer.
