COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial India Black Stout. This is a complete RTD Black and Tan. Not just any Black and Tan but the one where we flawlessly mixed a flippant good Imperial IPA with a profoundly evil Imperial Stout and sustained sweet beer balance.

The concept of a black ale with lots of aroma hops is very appealing to me, but unfortunately I often find that BIPAs tend to be too dominated by the roasted, stoutish notes, or the hops are drowning all other elements. Neither is the case with the Yin & Yang, this is finally a perfectly balanced BIPA (at least aromawise)! The very strong aroma contains truckloads of elements from both camps, both roasted notes, thick chocolate and dark caramel, but also a perfect amount of hoppy fruity notes. As always I find it a bit hard to pinpoint the exact fruits in such a beer, but the aroma is definitely tropical. This is close to perfection! In the glass it is very dark brown with a large, frothy, very light-brown head that reduces to islands and a partially covering film in short time. The head still leaves a good amount of lacing on my snifter. The taste is moderate sweet with a lovely heavy bitter long-lasting finish. The strong flavours are roasted, with lots of chocolate, some coffee, resin and tropical fruits like peach. There are also some quite strong alcohol notes, in a perfect beer the alcohol should be a bit better integrated. Despite the obvious alcohol the mouthfeel is very pleasant, the body is close to full, the texture is oily and the carbonation is moderate. Probably the best BIPA I’ve ever had!

Uploading old ratings that were missing comments. Not great at pouring black and tans so feel free to factor that into the rating. But the sum is not as good as the parts in my opinion. Still tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(clearly a tick - home-blending it although it is suggested onto label - will re-rate eventually and compare both) unclear dark brown with a small light beige head, some retention. burnt caramel and nuts - minus ashes and mineral from yin component, still very roasted, spicy and lightly piney hops. soft carbonation, medium body, medium long piney-citrusy slightly harsh finish. more like a hoppy bw than a black ipa - whatever. it is good but not better than the sum of its parts.

330 ml bottle. A dark amber body with a big, creamy beige head. Aroma has citric fruit, light roasted malt, liquorices, pine and dark chocolate. Flavour is sweet malt, moderate roasted, quite bitter, citric fruity, pine and liquorices. Both aroma and flavour is basically a combination of the two basic beers. Fine body and good aftertaste. Fine balance, pleasant to drink and dangerously well hidden alcohol.

Pours a very think and clear ruby red cola color with a huge head that fades quickly. Looks like Pepsi. Aromas of dark fruit bread, some light roast. Taste is slightly sweet, rum like, low bitterness. Low carbonation. Meh. Not worth the money.
