This beer is a bit intense and really piney and really bitter with huge oily mouthfeel. Just doesnt seem right to me. Heavy handed and harsh.

Black in color with a tan head. Nose is predominantly roasted malt, bu there are some decent hop notes. Flowers, citrus peel, and pine are the most notable. Decently sweet caramel and toffee notes. Roasted malt flavor and bitterness, pine bitterness, too. Citrus peel, floral notes, and a light herbal quality. A touch of coffee and some sweet caramel malt.

An attempt to make a CDA Cascadian Dark Ale, but it misses its mark. Other name for CDA is Black IPA. This CDA seems somewhat thick and there is a syrupy texture similar to many Scotch ales. The hops mostly present as bitterness- not fresh, piney or floral. The bitter lingers and dominates the finish. The malts -not much personality like lager malts, burnt. Slight woody nose, nice light brown creamy head that slowly dissipates.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a deep brown, near-black body with a ruby taint and a huge creamy off-white head. A very good-looking beer. Nose is also quite delicious: pine, melon, grass and resin is on the IPA side; on the stout side is mainly licorice, leather and hints of dark chocolate and mocha. Taste is pine, resin and herbal grassy tones mixed effortlessly with the dark chocolate, coffee and licorice tones. Very nice. The only drawback is some rather present alcoholic overtones, which without this beer would have been near-flawless in its composition. But at 11 % this is to be expected. Full body, soft to medium carbonation. A true sipper which is both strangely refreshing and heavy at the same time, just as could be expected from a beer operating on the pinnacle of the Black IPA genre.
