Imperial India Black Stout. This is a complete RTD Black and Tan. Not just any Black and Tan but the one where we flawlessly mixed a flippant good Imperial IPA with a profoundly evil Imperial Stout and sustained sweet beer balance. 33% Stout and 67% IPA.

Bottle. Aromas of roasted malts and subtle hops. Pours a dark opaque brown. There’s a nice balance of coffee roasts, hops, and some grapefruit. The mix of stout with the hoppy IPA makes this easy to drink at 10% ABV. Very enjoyable taste. Dry hoppy finish that pleasantly lingers.

Bottle: One-third stout & one-third IPA. Pitch black, just a small sliver of dark ruby at the very top, underneath the lathery, foamy tawny cap. Nice sheet of lacing as it recedes. Aroma favors the stout. Heavy roasted malt, charred cacao, & a hint of coffee bean. A touch of smokiness, too. There are some underlying notes of ashy hop leaves, pine, & faint citrus peel. Flavor definitely incorporates more of the IPA. Actually kind of tastes like a black IPA. Lots of pine, herbal leaves, bitter citrus rind, & moderate floral notes over a backbone of heavily roasted malt, charcoal, bitter cocoa beans, & mild smoke. Finishes with a kiss of bitter dark malts, grapefruit pith, ash, & a hint of saltiness. Alcohol becomes slightly noticeable with warmth. The pine flavor grows, too. Overall, though, much better than expected. Like a souped up, heavy-ass black IPA.

Bottle brought home from NYC. Black body with a medium light brown head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, hops, some tropical fruits in the background. Flavour is dark chocolate, bitter coffee, roasted malt, hops, again some fruit in the background. Wow this is delicious. Thanks for another great brew Jeppe.

400th review and my first Evil Twin. Coffee black pour with a tan head that didn’t last long. Earthy hop aromas and some burnt malts. Mellow drinker for the high alcohol and the unique style. Slight smokiness, resin, coffee, and some TLC. Not bad, and if it can be completely considered a Black IPA, then it is one of my favorites.

Poured a clear brown color with a small white head. Aroma was light chocolate notes, sweet roasted malts. Flavor was roasted malts, floral hops. Bitter chocolate notes, light nutty notes. Boozy notes at the end.

BOD 259/14. Pours a slightly transparent near black. Normal head volume, above average retention and excellent lacing. Nose is as advertised - ale characteristics (pine and citrus hops) over stout characteristics (dark chocolate with notes of roast). Underneath are notes of caramel - quite nice. As it warms, alcohol becomes evident as do very subtle notes of dark fruit. Light medium bodied with a nice smooth texture that has a bit of creaminess to it. Above normal carbonation with a bit of effervescence in the middle and more in the finish. The flavor profile is intense, quite complex and reasonably balanced. It begins with a burst of sweetness that rapidly fades into a blended bitterness of hops and roast. As the bitterness fades, grapefruit rind and pine hop flavors become dominant. These, in turn, yield to a mild coffee flavor over a sweet chocolate note. The finish is a lingering rind bitterness over heavy notes of alcohol and hints of prune.

12 oz bottle. Pours a very, very deep brown with a light tan head. Somewhat roasty aroma with some more fruity suggestions. As a "black and tan" it drinks like a Black IPA, with roastiness and an herbal pine hoppiness. A rather nice one, in fact.

Pours mostly black with a fairly frothy tan head - nose and flavor have a nice mixture of the smoke, anise, and roast of the stout, coupled with stringy woody hop character and bitterness - slick texture - hefty body - it often tastes more like a hoppy imperial stout than a black IPA, a suppose a testament to the stou that is part of the blend - quite tasty.

[6027-20131030] 12floz bottle. Roasty wood chocolate aroma. Clear, dark mahogany red body with a long-lasting creamy mocha head. Sweet roasted chocolate malt flavour has a sweetened coffee feel to it. Full body is fairly bitter. Delicious but a touch rough in the finish. (8/5-/8/4/17) 4.2

12 oz. bottle. Pours black, with a medium, bubbly, tan head. The nose is roasted malts, pine, semi-sweet chocolate, toffee, and subtle honeysuckle. Sweet and malty, with some roasted bitterness, but a substantial hop bitterness. Heavy body, sticky, syrupy, and fairly astringent. This is a nice hoppy, roasted beer. Nicely balanced.
