Imperial India Black Stout. This is a complete RTD Black and Tan. Not just any Black and Tan but the one where we flawlessly mixed a flippant good Imperial IPA with a profoundly evil Imperial Stout and sustained sweet beer balance.

23-NOV-2012, bottle @home, from Ølbutikken. Dark brown with lasting tan head. very fresh hopped roasted brew. Fine balance between hops roast. Very hoppy. Full body, medium carbonation. Better the times I have blended the two brews myself, and certainly better at the time served @Mikkeller as a blend of the two parts.

5/XI/12 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ home - BB: n/a (2012-1249)

clear red to purple brown beer, big irregular dark beige head, pretty stable, adhesive, nice lacing. Aroma: lots of citrus, pineapple, passion fruit, piny, bit dusty. MF: ok carbon, full body, bit syrupy texture. Taste: pretty sweet sugary start, fruity, some citrus, pineapple, piny hops, sweet malty backbone, some honey, bitter hops. Aftertaste: piny bitter hops over a caramel and sweet malty base, alcohol is noticeable.

33cl bottle shared with Dutchdrebus. Clear dark red brown color with a deep dark red glare coming through when held into the light. Smell lightly malts, grapefruit, hops, slightly metal, roastyness. Taste malts, roastyness, slightly coffee, hops, very bitter, lightly coffee, lightly grapefruit. Getting closer to the perfect match of imperial stout & IPA, but there is always a tiny bit room for improvement. Great beer though!

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2014 Bottle @ home thx to benzai. Clear dark red brown colour with a deep ruby redness shining through, full off-white head. Smells roasty, chocolate, grapefruit, coffee. Amazing smell. If the taste is as great as the smell this will be my new favorite beer. Tastes some iron, hops, grapefruit, pine, roasty, some roastyness. Amazing beer. When blending the yin and yang myself i didn’t achieve this. Full body great carbo. The initial taste of a perfect IPA with the aftertaste of an amazing stout. This is my favorite black IPA. Hell, this is my favorite beer.

From a bottle at an evil twin food pairing at ChurchKey in DC. Pours a almost black with a tan head. Mix of cherries and citrus in the nose. Strange mix of flavors. Prefer yin and yang separately.

After tasting Yang, which was one of the best beers I’ve had, I had big expectations for this one. And it didn’t disappoint. Pours a black oily liquid with a medium offwhite head that quickly disappears. Sweet aroma of chokolate malts and some hoppy notes aswell, kind of reminds me of a barleywine. Tastewise it also has the attributes of a barleywine. Loving it.

(From notes 19 Oct, 2012) Bottle. The head is compact and beige in color. The beer is almost black. Aroma is fruity hops. Flavors are slight alcohol and a strange mix of bitter coffee and some sweetness. Mouthfeel is smooth enough (good). Finish is a sharp bitterness.

Overall an interesting beer. Alcohol takes an unwelcome peek between the otherwise enjoyable sweet & bitter. In the end, good beer.

33cl bottle, from Hopduvel.
