3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Malt & Vine.
Cute gimmick; I was eager to see how it works. But now that Iíve tasted it I just donít see the point. Both of the base beers are really nice on their own. Together, theyíre sticky-sweet, alcoholic, and hot without any of the grace that the bases provide. Nose skews toward yin; flavor toward yang. My first real disappointment from Evil Twin. Sometimes the whole is less than the sum of the parts.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass:
Small bit airy but pretty vast light brown head on top of a deep dark brown to black colored beer.
Aroma of hops, citrus, liquorice, some sweets, hints of meat and coal.
Flavours of liquorice, hops, good bitter, hints of coffee, citrus, pine and roasted malts.
Bitter liquorice hoppy aftertaste.
Low carbo, soft silky mouthfeel, full body and a light creamy texture.
Decent BIPA, but I have had better BIPAís!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Poured clear dark brown color with an average frothy light brown head that lasted and produced excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy complex toasted malt, earthy and alcohol aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a dark solid beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
11.2oz bottle from Party Town, brewed in Scotland. Labeled "Yin & Yang: Imperial Taiji Black & Tan"; marked 11.1% ABV. Very dark brown, near black color. Thin khaki head, leaves nice sprays of lace. Huh.. Aroma retains a lot of stout - like qualities, and not in a good way. Does not drink like a Black IPA. Drinks like an adulterated imperial stout that hasnít aged well. A lot of licorice, herbal flavors. Stonger bitter taste, kind of astringent, lightly medicinal.. Stronger boozy sweet taste in the finish, with a bit of a bite. Some spicy, herbal hop. Bitter dark chocolate. Bigger body, chewy like a stout. Lighter carbonation, sort of a silky, velvety texture, thatís nice. A decent but boozey sweet hoppy imperial stout. Not what Iíd call a Black IPA, though.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma is where sweet chocolate maltiness meets piney hops. Deep brown in color with a bit of soft sudsy white head. Really well balanced flavor, starting stout-like with those chocolate notes and finishing with a lingering hoppy pine character. Quite soft on the tongue. Fantastic.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Beer in the glass deep black, small head. Hoppy-dry aroma. Starts dry-malty, flowery-hoppy. Finish a bit alcoholic. Mild-hoppy aftertaste. Not bad.
