Imperial India Black Stout. This is a complete RTD Black and Tan. Not just any Black and Tan but the one where we flawlessly mixed a flippant good Imperial IPA with a profoundly evil Imperial Stout and sustained sweet beer balance. 33% Stout and 67% IPA.

Bue en petite quantité. Enorme bonne surprise pour ce blend. Superbe équilibre entre ces 2 bieres qui se complètent et se mélangent tout à fait bien.

50/50 mix. The pale ale clearly dominates. The aroma is mostly Yang - same hoppy fruity notes, and lots of sweet fruity malts - but the impy reduces some of the caramel sweetness. The flavour is fruity malt sweetness, hops and nice chocolaty and roasty accents. The bitterness is strong and somewhat harsh.

Pour is coffee black with a medium thick tan froth. Aroma mostly overpowered with citrus, pine, grapefruit, hops, with a slight background of of the roasted malty notes of the stout. They combined the citrus fruit hoppiness with the roasted coffee chocolateness of the two styles perfectly. Really enjoyed this beer.

355ml bottle from Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York. Black in colour with a lasting tan coloured head. The aroma is of chocolate, oranges, some roast. The flavour is of light citrus hops, chocolate, roast and light smoke. Finishes long, moderate bitterness, light alcohol.

Bottle. Roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate and a some hops. Pours black with a thin light brown head and decent lacing. Starts with good roasted malt and some chocolate, but still medium bodied. Finishes with the dryness and slight citrus hoppiness of an ipa, but also has the roasted maltiness of a stout that sticks to the palate. Interesting take on a Black and Tan.

Bottle: Pours black with a dark tan head. Smoke and licorice aroma. Burned coffee and chocolate flavor. Big charred/ashy and resiny hop bittering. This one hit’s all the marks for the style. Excellent stuff.

On tap @ 10 East Aroma - seems to angle towards the IIPA territory rather than the expected IS territory. Fruity, lots of pine sap with just a echo of roasted malts. Lurking underneath it all is some wet coffee grounds. Appearance - muddy dark brownish/lack body, scant head. Aggitation provides a 1" tight beige head. Flavor - pine sap and chocolate dominate things, but an ashy/acridness shows up too that’s not very pleasing to me. Licorice and dark berries seem to show up too about mid-pint. Palate - full bodied beer, nothing cloying but you can feel some density about it. Overall - I think I like the individual beers better than the combo, but it wasn’t bad.
