English Language Label: This is one half of a Black & Tan. Not just any Black & Tan, but one where a toasted smug and hoppy fella get together to make a sublime Taiji balance. Mix the Yin & Yang together (or enjoy this profoundly evil Imperial Stout solo).

From a 355ml bottle on 16/3/2015. Pours near black with a very small head. Features a pleasant nose featuring lots of chocolate and caramel. It’s an impressive and complex beast to sip, with lots competing for attention, including dark chocolate, fudge, a hint of coffee, dates and prunes, soy, a dash of booze, finished off by burnt malt and a good dash of bitter hops. The palate is slightly creamy and the carbonation soft. A terrific slow sipper.

This beer pours viscous and black with a brown head that fades somewhat quickly. The aroma blends booze, dark chocolate, and roasted malts. The taste is mildly bitter, mildly umami, slightly boozy, and slightly sweet, and the aftertaste is slightly smoky and full of roasted malts. The mouthfeel fuses a slick texture, medium body, and a soft carbonation.

On tap at Naka-Meguro Taproom. 250ml served in a snifter. Pitch black with ruby highlights and a modest tan head that dissipates fairly quickly. Prune, fig, leather, coffee and cacao on the nose. Bitter with a hint of sourness on the palate. Medium body with a slightly oily texture. Soft carbonation. Long bitter finish. The hops come in and present a nice amount of bitterness that hangs around after the finish. Good stuff.

Pitch black with a dark khaki head. Nose is roasted malts, chocolate, light coffee, alcohol, and more roast. Great palate, heavy roasted malts, light coffee, chocolate, more roasted malts, smooth finish.

Another solid offering by Evil Twin brewing in the stout department. This surprisingly sharp, spicy stout really has a bit of a hops kick to it, and a long, peppery, dark chocolate-cocoa aftertaste. Yum.

Tap at Torst. Deep brown color, small beige head. Toasted, roasted and chocolaty aroma. Full-bodied. Roasted, coffee-licorice flavor. Very nicely in balance with warming alcohol.

Nice stout. Pours s beautiful black. The aroma lets you know what about to hit your tongue. Chocolate, a little sweet fruit, maybe even a hint of licorice.

Svart med lavt brunlig skum. Aroma av sjokolade, kaffe, gummi og røstet malt. I smaken finner jeg kaffe, noe lakris. sjokolade. Fint lite sting av bitterhet. Tykk kropp, lav karbonering. Oljete.

Yin Imperial Taji Stout Only black with a thin rusty tan head that vanished quickly. It has a great coffee mocha aroma that evokes freshly baked brownies with a cup of coffee - delicious. Med-full bodied with a smooth velvety mouthfeel. The taste is mocha, chocolate brownies, roasted barley or oats, some umami savouriness , sweet dark licorice & 70% cacao bitter chocolate - very good & more up my alley as I am not a huge hop head.
