3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle purchased at west lakeview... Pours a solid slick black hue, impenetrable it seems, and topped with a creamy medium beige head... Chocolate, light roast, and a formidable yeast upfront in the aroma. Dark fruits and molasses surface midway and on through the finish... Roasted malt, chocolate and cocoa through the middle with bitter char and dark fruits imparting themselves towards the finish. The bitterness lingers on well past the aforementioned qualities with a fair amount of heat that works its way down the the throat. Body is a touch thinner than what I would expect. Carbonation is slightly prickly in the mouth and on the tongue.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
11.2 ounce bottle - $6.99 at Olde Crabapple Bottle Shoppe in Alpharetta, Georgia. Best before 2015.
Appearance: Pours an inky black body with a tan, climbing head that settles but never quite dissipates.
Smell: Roasty malts, heavy in the nose, hinting even at creosote with fairly faint background hints of chocolate and caramel and black licorice. Small trace of dark fruitiness and a soupçon of reduced sodium soy.
Taste: Well-roasted malts with a fair portion of dark chocolate liqueur and chilled espresso and a sliver of char-like tar. Light sweetness at best. Stirred up with a vanilla bean that is immediately discarded. Earthy, strongly roasty bitterness throughout. Hint of blood sausage. Drying, malty, richly roasty finish with some small amount of peppery alcohol.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation.
Overall: Pretty good. A full-on roasty, malt-packed stout that just barely falls shy of being too boozy or harshly roasty with a displeasing astringency.
