3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of brownie, cake, dark chocolate, some coffee, some slight roast, pretty nice. Taste is a mix of dark chocolate, roast, smoke, hints of vanilla, touch of brownie, slight earthy and spicy tones, finishing fairly mixed between bitter and dry.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium creamy brown head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is a little subdued - roasted chocolate malts and some black licorice and a little smoke.
The flavor is some sweetness up front with heavily roasted chocolate malts and some dark fruit and black licorice. There’s lots of charred bitterness in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, but a bit watery.
Overall, it’s got too much charred bitter roast.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Von Trappe Seattle. Pitch dark brown with thick, creamy brown cap. Very smooth, dark chocolate taste. Aroma is subtle chocolate and molasses. Quite a good beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Found four packs of this for 9.99 - considering how much I enjoyed the imperial porter, I picked one up - pours thick, dark, with a compact dark brown head that quickly settles to a faint lace - nose of smoke, wood, prune, raisin, roast, chocolate, licorice, light vinous/red wine character - low carbonation, creamy texture - fairly sweet chocolate flavors up front, but this is quickly followed by a deep, intense roast, light smoke, and moderate dark malt bitterness - none of these qualities become abrasive - they just balance the initial sweetness and add more depth to the beer - some earth, wood, and a little bit of prune and vinous notes before a roasty, medium dry finish - bitterness is perhaps a little high on the tail end, but I would call this another winner from this brewer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Black gold. Lovely imperial stout with the strong coffee, malt, roasty flavors you would expect. Exceptionally smooth and clean. Mix with ET Yang for a little fun.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Brewed in Connecticut. Pours a deep, opaque black with a medium, lasting dark-tan head. Aroma is rather mild, with elements of roasted malt, chocolate, grainy sweetness - none overpowering. Flavor is somewhat more assertive - dried dark pit fruit, bitter chocolate, roasted malt, booze. The sweetness in the aroma is much less pronounced in the flavor. Lingering boozy, bitter finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours jet black with tan head, aroma is roastmalts and dark fruit. Very smooth velvet sort of texture molasses, coffee, dark chocolate and a bit thin and watery on the back end with not much of a finish to speak of. There is a little bit of a bitter pine hop burn to it but not much. It is smooth and easy to drink, hides the ABV very well but there is not a whole lot going on here. Fairly average compared to many other stouts I have had in this ABV range.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2015 Beautiful pitch black cola-like beer. Has a surprisingly mild aroma given its massive taste - lots of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, salty bacon with big hop presence to balance it out. Bold, dark, bitter. Very tasty.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours black with not much head and a little lace. Aroma is big pepper meaty, pine, paprika. Flavor is fairly dry, very peppery, bitter middle, and hot savory end. Feel is fairly light and lively but the pepper bit goes right to the nose and lingers on the palate. This is one of the more interesting stouts I’ve had in a while and quite like it.
Making a black & tan with the Yang...everything rounds out, it is still mostly a stout but with a bit more fruit and sweetness that was present in neither by themselves and the bitterness seems much more muted, though it creeps in.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark heavy brown with a thin khaki head. Nose is roasty and dark sweet with a touch of coffee and light rye like notes. Flavor is bitter with roastiness and rye maybe, but blends into a roasted malt flavor with a touch of dark roast coffee. Pretty roasty with ample bitterness. Had a weird syrupy finish.
