COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jacques Au Lantern, our Belgian-inspired pumpkin ale, is now on at the taproom. 6.1% abv, unfiltered and a whirlwind of spicy flavors and aromatics. It would take me a while to describe this one, it’s probably easier for all of us if you just stop by and try it.

ben4321 (3847) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - OCT 8, 2012
Location: 12 oz bottle from State Line, 10/8/12

Aroma: The nose is herbs and spice (ginger, cinnamon, etc), with some yeasty notes
Appearance: A completely clear orange pour with a small white head (that disappears) and no lace
Flavor: The odd herbal portion that is so prevalent in the nose pretty much goes away in the flavor, as does the ginger, and the taste has a lot more pumpkin-type spices (cinnamon, allspice, etc). It is also fairly sweet for the style with a light spice hop bitterness. The flavor works much better then the nose.
Palate: The body is fairly light and a bit watery, it has a lightly fizzy carbonation, and a fairly short finish
Overall Impression: I wasn’t really all that impressed with this one. Oddly, the flavor was completely different then the nose, and probably my favorite part of the beer, but overall, I just didn’t feel like this one worked that well. Really though, this issue is that this one was all over the map.

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2013 Bottle via StateLine Pumpkin tasting..... Smells like some slight spices, pumpkin and vegetables? Taste is more of vegetable, squash than pumpkin... Some spices and pumpkin but they dont stand out.. Medium body. Maybe this was a funky bottle. I will have to re-rate but overall little let down by this one... Re-rate... 11 12 13... Pumpkin and veggie notes on the nose. Taste is sweet pumpkin and sweet malts... crisp taste. medium body. Easy drinker... Original score was 2.8...bumped it up to 3.2

12oz bottle. Pour is a nice orange color with one finger of white head. Aroma is all pumpkin spice for me and a small hint of caramel. Mouth is mostly of spices: nutmeg, cinnamon and clove. Not much pumpkin on my palette. Medium bodied. This wasn’t all that bad but I could use a little more pumpkin flavor and dial down the spice a bit.

I thought this beer was delicious, had it tapped out of a pumpkin that had cooked pumpkin pieces and cinnamon inside to infuse the beer with even more flavor, perfectly spiced and nice pumpkin pie flavor.

On tap at Rustico’s OktoBEERfest 2011. Served in a plastic pint. Reviewed from notes. Pours a fairly-clear orange color with a nice white head and some good lacing. The nose carries some pumpkin spice and gourd. Well integrated with nothing coming on too strong. Flavor was a bit of a fallback from there, though still fairly good. Light body with a semi-dry finish. Pretty tasty and a nice all around effort.

Hand Bottle:   Orangish Amber, thin to moderate sudsy white head, spotty lacing.   Musty floral notes up front, followed by pumpkin like spices, nutmeg and cinnamon.   Moreso spiced on the tongue than suggested on the nose.   Fairly assertive nutmeg flavors, a little cinnamon, with a shadow of that aformentioned musty floralness.   Minor clove too.   This one is really spicy, but its not too over the top.   It reminds me of cinnamon toast crunch cereal a bit.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, albeit smooth and it wraps the tongue nicely.   Strong spices linger.   Spices are very fresh too.   Nose seems to be a bit more musty and floral, but on the tongue its oh ever so spicy.   Thanks Bert for this treat!

Elwood (3046) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - OCT 29, 2011
Serving: Draft. It pours a nice orange color with a small head. The nose has a nice bit of pumpkin spice, perhaps some malt sweetness. The flavor has the requisite pumpkin pie notes, but is drier than most examples on the back end. A bit of lingering bitterness. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Not half bad.

Definatley smells like an IPA & has very little pumpkin flavor. However, the beer as a whole is very tasty & drinkable. Imagine belgium meets autumn at a happy medium. Unique & quite good. I’m a fan.
