Jacques Au Lantern, our Belgian-inspired pumpkin ale, is now on at the taproom. 6.1% abv, unfiltered and a whirlwind of spicy flavors and aromatics. It would take me a while to describe this one, it’s probably easier for all of us if you just stop by and try it.

Staff recommendation at Churchkey. Not a bad pumpkin beer, the spice outweighs the squash, and it doesn’t taste like pumpkin pie.

A golden ale wit a thin white head. In aroma, a nice mix of Belgian fruity esters and light pumpkin spices, light herbal notes. In mouth, a smooth Belgian ale with good balance of spices, cinnamon predominating, cloves, a bit of cardamom, quite nice. On tap at RFD, Sept. 18 2010.

Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear copper color with a thin creamy offwhite head. Decent head retention. Aroma of pumpkin spices and herbal hops. The taste is pumpkin, pumpkin spices and a hoppy finish. Thin-medium bodied. Seems a little hollow... missing something. A little bit too hoppy. Soft carbonation.

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours fizzy orange with a finger of off-white head that goes away quickly and loudly. Nose is pumpkin spice, puree, and funky malt. Tastes funky, with yeasty pumpkin esters, a bit dry and floral, and with an more funky yeasty esters in the finish than pumpkin. This one is unique, and uses the pumpkin in a supporting role, and it works well.

Growler from the brewery: Pours a clear deep golden bronze with a spotty-lacing froth of white head. Has a lightly sweet biscuity malty nose with some fresh pumpkin notes and aromatic cinnamon. Starts with good fullness and a nice light malty sweetness balanced with fleshy pumpkin flavor and clove spice before a smooth pumpkin pie finish. Has just the right amount of pumpkin flavor and spices. I hope they start bottling this.

33cl bottle, cheers Sean for hauling this from PA. My Halloween 2012 beer. BB 12/2012.

Hand Bottle:   Orangish Amber, thin to moderate sudsy white head, spotty lacing.   Musty floral notes up front, followed by pumpkin like spices, nutmeg and cinnamon.   Moreso spiced on the tongue than suggested on the nose.   Fairly assertive nutmeg flavors, a little cinnamon, with a shadow of that aformentioned musty floralness.   Minor clove too.   This one is really spicy, but its not too over the top.   It reminds me of cinnamon toast crunch cereal a bit.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, albeit smooth and it wraps the tongue nicely.   Strong spices linger.   Spices are very fresh too.   Nose seems to be a bit more musty and floral, but on the tongue its oh ever so spicy.   Thanks Bert for this treat!
