3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 harpsm (27) - USA - SEP 24, 2010
On tap at RFD in DC. Cloudy straw color. Flavor begins with pumpkin spice, dominated by clove, but with very little actual pumpkin flavor. Flavor then quickly fades to a smooth, spicy Belgian wheat ale. The wheat and spice flavors hang around for a looooong, wonderful finish. Not a great example of a pumpkin beer, but more of an interesting twist on a Belgian style wheat ale.

I thought this beer was delicious, had it tapped out of a pumpkin that had cooked pumpkin pieces and cinnamon inside to infuse the beer with even more flavor, perfectly spiced and nice pumpkin pie flavor.

On tap at Rustico’s OktoBEERfest 2011. Served in a plastic pint. Reviewed from notes.
Pours a fairly-clear orange color with a nice white head and some good lacing. The nose carries some pumpkin spice and gourd. Well integrated with nothing coming on too strong. Flavor was a bit of a fallback from there, though still fairly good. Light body with a semi-dry finish. Pretty tasty and a nice all around effort.

Hand Bottle:   Orangish Amber, thin to moderate sudsy white head, spotty lacing.   Musty floral notes
up front, followed by pumpkin like spices, nutmeg and cinnamon.   Moreso spiced on the tongue than suggested on
the nose.   Fairly assertive nutmeg flavors, a little cinnamon, with a shadow of that aformentioned musty
floralness.   Minor clove too.   This one is really spicy, but its not too over the top.   It reminds me
of cinnamon toast crunch cereal a bit.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, albeit smooth and it wraps the tongue
nicely.   Strong spices linger.   Spices are very fresh too.   Nose seems to be a bit more musty and
floral, but on the tongue its oh ever so spicy.   Thanks Bert for this treat!
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Elwood (1974) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - OCT 29, 2011
Serving: Draft. It pours a nice orange color with a small head. The nose has a nice bit of pumpkin spice, perhaps some malt sweetness. The flavor has the requisite pumpkin pie notes, but is drier than most examples on the back end. A bit of lingering bitterness. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Not half bad.

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2011 Poured a light orange color with a white head. Aroma has lots of pumpkin and oranges. Taste is very smooth and creamy with pumpkin. Lots of spices and nutmeg. Overall decent, maybe too spicy. e

Definatley smells like an IPA & has very little pumpkin flavor. However, the beer as a whole is very tasty & drinkable. Imagine belgium meets autumn at a happy medium. Unique & quite good. I’m a fan.

Draft at Churchkey. Pours that classic orange amber of the pumpkin beers of the season. This one has a heavier spice profile that keeps it from tasting like creamy pumpkin pie. In the good manifestations (Pumking) I think the creaminess is awesome, but I respect the effort to have one with a bit more hop presence that isn’t just straight pumpkin and sweetness. Decent.

On draft at The Big Hunt DC. Not a bad pumpkin ale, not overly spiced which is good.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Drake (5231) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - OCT 1, 2011
Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear copper color with a thin creamy offwhite head. Decent head retention. Aroma of pumpkin spices and herbal hops. The taste is pumpkin, pumpkin spices and a hoppy finish. Thin-medium bodied. Seems a little hollow... missing something. A little bit too hoppy. Soft carbonation.

Staff recommendation at Churchkey. Not a bad pumpkin beer, the spice outweighs the squash, and it doesn’t taste like pumpkin pie.
