4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Frisco Grille, Columbia: Pours a transparent deep golden bronze with a stringy-lacing white head. Aroma of fresh abundant resiny grapefruity hops with some pale malty sweetness underneath. Starts with good fullness and a nice light caramely sweetness with lots of assertive citrusy bittering and flavor hops before a drier, crisp bittersweet finish. Very flavorful, yet well balanced and quite hoppy hiding its alcohol well.

Pint at Meridian Pint. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. A big fruity nose, citrus. The flavor is mild bitterness, big oranges, a bit of zesty lemon and big resin. Quite nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Churchkey. Pours a clear amber color with a medium plus sized white head. The aroma has earthy, resiny and mild citrus hops with some caramel and mild fruit notes. The flavor is similar; resin and dank hops, mild citrus, toasted malts with a splash of caramel and a touch of fruit. Decent, but something kept it from being a standout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nice full citrus aroma, orangepeel, lime.
Cloudy amber, lacing head.
Mellow, light oily mouthfeel. Medium resinny hops, ok balance for a dipa, nice citruspeel aftertaste.

1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bottle. Pours a clear light copper body with a small fizzy white head that faded to a thin ring and a small island. The nose is a little too heavy on the crystal malt sweetness for my tastes, light to moderate citrusy hops. The flavor is lightly bitter with a huge amount of crystal malt sweetness. The hops are so dulled by the awful sweet malt base that they really don’t have a chance to shine at all. Very light bitterness for a DIPA as well. Medium bodied and a bit sticky with hard fizzy carbonation. A pretty awful DIPA. I had their Lot #3 IPA and it was pretty delicious, this is a 180 degree turn from that one. The sweetness on the finish just lingers on for ever. Yuck.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Nose is big on nice tropical fruits, rinds and all, with a firm pine base. Pours clear amber with a dense and rocky off-white head. Taste medium-strong bitterness, some cool astringent and highly resinous notes, but sweet with a faint amount of booze seeping through. Light body (again, something I didn’t like about the small, not souped-up original of which this is a variant) but with nice cleansing soapy character and lighter wood. some of the woodier and spicier notes from their IPA are toned down here, but I have to give it to them, they make clean and refreshing beers.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Cheers to Adam for the generous pour. The appearance is deep orange with a tiny head. The nose is strong pacific citrus hops. Some general grapefruit and orange. A bit of sweet captain crunch cereal and honeyed bread. The taste is more citrus fruits. Grapefruit. Some menthol cigarette. Grass finish. Pretty chunky malt profile. A bit syrupy. Some caramel. Heavy body. Fine carbonation. Overall, decent. Sort of flabby.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Rich deep hazy copper coloured body with a bright orange and peach coloured glow with a massive, four centimetre tall tan head - very nice. Aroma of resin, alcohol, pine, grapefruit, a lot of sugars and some noticeable malt. Full-bodied; Super rich flavour of grapefruit and resin up front - this is a pungent and potent beer. Aftertaste shows a great variety of hop flavours with floral notes spanning to pine and grapefruit and everything in between. All with a lot of malt behind for a great balance, but still a strong beer. Overall, a nice and deep imperial IPA that has a great flavour profile, is strong and pungent and served in a small format bottle. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 02-April-2013 for US$2.79 sampled at home in Washington on 08-May-2013.
