Reviewed 2/18/13. 12 oz bottle into a nonic pint glass. A: Pours a very dark burnt sienna color. It’s not completely opaque at all, like many porters tend to be. The head is a one finger offwhite shade that fades into a thin film with some collaring around the edge of the glass. S: A fairly chocolaty porter; it’s more dry than milky sweet, though. Some nuts, dark unroasted malts, and hazelnut coffee tie these qualities together. Not particularly grabbing or expressive, but good. T: Even drier than the nose suggested. There are some roasted nuts to start, some lactose cream flavors in the midtaste, and a finish of coffee with just a hint of dry chocolate. I also notice a twinge of finishing hops; not just in the light bitterness, but with the mildly acidic and mineral-esque kick in the aftertaste, as well. M: Light bodied, with good carbonation, and a crisp, dry finishing kick. About what I expect from a porter. O: For better or worse, it’s a standard porter. Granted, it’s a standard porter that’s executed quite well; however this lacks many qualities that would enable it to stand out from its brethren. It’s one to consider purchasing, but perhaps not one to seek out.

Weak aroma (could be the glass). Deep coffee color, clear. Hints of coffee and chocolate. Hop bitterness shows up at the end and lingers a bit long.

Nice malt, coffee, a hint of chocolate and smoke upon the first taste. The appearance is nice and dark for a porter. It has a nice dry lingering finish.

UPDATED: APR 7, 2015 Not bad but not one of the better porters out there. Had bottled. Decent color. A little too light in the flavor. Too heavily carbonated.

On tap at the Evolution Public House in Salisbury, MD. Opaque, near black with a thin khaki head that did not linger more than a minute and good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, prunes, smokey coffee and chocolate. Taste of chocolate, blackberry, roasted malt, roasted coffee, plums and a touch of smokiness. Medium body and high/medium carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Virginia Beach, VA. Dark brown cola-like pour. Roasted malt aroma of chocolate, espresso, and light smoke. Taste features roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and faint bitter charred malt with just a touch of floral hops on the finish. Medium bodied. This is nicely done porter.
